Wheels and tires ?s

I know that there are tons and tons of wheel/tire combos. So I thought I might ask the group for opinions and photos.

I will be doing light to medium duty off-roading (at least until I get used to the FJ off-road), however I do commute 100 miles round trip at least once a week possibly more, so the tires would have to be good for highway driving. The other consideration is that I will have the stock ride height for now.

Let me know what you have and what you think of it.

For all around use I am running Nitto Terra Grappler 295/16 on American Racing teflon wheels. They have about 15k miles on them and have done very weel. The only area that they are not great in is sticky or deep mud. They are just not made for it.

I picked up BFG AT's when I got my FJC. They are OK, but have a negative impact on mileage, lose lugs to rocks offroad, shed mud relatively well and seem to have some balance issues - of course tossing lugs could affect that. A lot of our club runs the Nittos, and thats probably going to be my replacement tire, as it is well suited to AZ offroad and the highway as well.

I've always liked BFG AT's. They've worked well for me, and always last a long time.

Another vote for the Nitto graplers. I have BFGs on my heep and the Nittos are hands down a better tire.

Exposed to more asphalt, dirt, and mud than to rocks
M/Ts, of course, better in the mud than the ATs
The 33s with OME 3" lift rub in the front in tight turns if flexed some.
Reasonable manners on the freeway.

I had the BFG AT's prior to the Nittos....no comparison. The Nittos win hands down. Much better on road manners and give up little to nothing off road. If you go to 16" wheels the Nittos also come in a 34"

I went with the Dick Cepek FC-11's there great on and off road . If you get into any mud the BFG's and Nittos do not self clean as well as the FC-11's . I went with 285/75r16 ( 33x11.5 ) with a Toytec 1/2 inch spacer up front .

285/70/17 Hankook Dynapro MTs. I ran these at stock height for about a week or two before lifting. They rubbed at full lock. Very good on road manners with minimal road noise. Road noise comparable to Nitto Terra Grapplers which I ran on an 03' 4runner.

I have 285/75/16 BFG AT's mounted on rockcrawler (from wheeler offroad http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/fjsteelwheels.htm) black steelys. I downsized the rims for more rubber traction, these wheels were so well made that they need zero wheel weights while balancing.

BFG A/T have never let me down, on or off road. I tried the nittos on my full size work truck and was not pleased with their on road characteristics-never tried them off road.

Not a lot of noise on the highway either... just a humming noise... to me that's muzik!!!!

Do you think you could have lived with these without your lift - full lock rubbing aside? I won't be able to lift mine much due to a parking garage height limit - at least for now.
