NE PA coal region
I'm sure you guys know there not be a coal mine cruiser event this year. After twenty tears or so of doing a great job and offering a fine event the Gotham guys have hung it up. FYI there is a fairly large group of guys gonna be at the Twin Grove campground the weekend of July 11, 12, and 13 to wheel and have a coal mine classic of our own. The Polish contingent is coming down and a bunch of guys from the Keystone club will be there. Of course everyone of you guys is most welcome to show up and have a great time. We picked that weekend to reserve our cabins as coal mine was historically held the second weekend of July. I know some of the Gotham guys are still planning to come down and wheel but I believe they've picked the following weekend to be there.

Thank you for the invitation. We will definitely put this on the radar and see who wants to make it

Where do you guys plan to wheel?

anyone here thinking about going? Looks like a few CLCC guys are going. I checked the campground site and there are no more cabins but there are a few tent sites left.

I thought about going up and wheeling Rausch in the race car but it is close to SAS so I am not sure. I would stay at the Comfort Inn pine grove with a/c and the special Rausch Creek discount. You can party and hang out in the parking lot all night or in the lounge inside if weather is bad, been there done it.

Looks like the group is planning on AOAA. I have no interest in that this trip.

If I can make it I'm only in for Rausch. Haven't been there yet

I've never been to rausch. I'm guessing if you brought the race truck we wouldn't be seeing much of you. I'd really love to see that thing in action though. As far as the AOAA trip, I could be talked into it if a few of the BBRC guys wanted to go, but given how long of a drive it is and far the campsite is from the wheeling, I could be just as easily talked out of it.

You could follow me on most trails with your 37's. I may be a little faster than you but happy to come back around and spot. A lot of the hard stuff loops back to the easier trails. I do not like how far away AOAA is from the camp ground. The hotel I stay is right off the highway and an easier drive up a few miles to RC.

I wouldn’t mind going to either, but can’t commit because not sure the state the truck will be in.

Well, looking at pricing, $60 each to become a member, $70 a day for driver, $50 for 2nd day, and $25 a day for pass, 1st day waived, looks like $265 for Betsy and I for two days. The Cove looks better and better.....

A bunch of us Keystone guys spent a Saturday at Rausch earlier this year and are all paid up and ready to wheel at Rausch with just paying the day fees. I like Rausch and I like AAOA (and I liked Paragon too). There are great trails at both places for all levels of wheeling. Rausch is more expensive to wheel than AAOA but it's a lot closer to the campground., I must say the drive to AAOA gets tiring after doing it two or three days in a row. For the last two years at Coal Mine the authorities wanted everyone to wheel at AAOA and most did- it made the organizers tasks of inspecting and trying to arrange groups a lot easier to have everyone at one venue.
Not sure what park my Polish buddies are planning to wheel but I am certain that there will be people wheeling at both Rausch and AAOA Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Cabin availability for Coal Mine in the past has been iffy. We reserve our cabins a year in advance to make sure we get what we want. One of the good assets at Twin Grove is their bath houses, even if you don't have a cabin you can get a good hot shower in a clean facility. And like Rob, I too have stayed in the hotel many times and it really does work out as well as he stated (unless you're drunk as a monkey and can't drive back to the hotel!). In July at the end of a hot day on the trail a night in an air-conditioned hotel room is a blessing and they have a decent free breakfast there too.
It's all good. I am expecting maybe fifty to sixty people showing up for the second weekend in July. Gonna be a good time!!!!!
