Team,

I am headed to NE and SD for work, I will proably stay 2 weeks at a time. The whole renting a car thing drives me crazy. I may drive out from NC. Is there any wheeling places in NE and SD? Also, what about mountain biking?

Or I may buy an inexpensive car and leave it out there because I will be coming back in February, March, and April. Or I could leave my 100 series out there for a few months. I would need a safe place to keep it.

In other words, does anyone with a second car want to make some cash. It would basically be the same as me renting a car each time. Like $50 a day x 9 days, cash. I hate giving this money to rental car companies. Drives me crazy.

Any ideas greatly appreciated. I would like to explore if I bring my 100 and mountain bike. If not, I could rent a mountain bike. And I know it will be cold so maybe some cold weather activities like fat wheel biking, snow shoeing, etc.

Thank you,

Andrew

DM me and we can exchange phone numbers and talk about this crazy idea. I just like to enjoy all the outdoors when I visit places. Thank you.

If you end up in the Western half of the state, Lake McConaughy can be a delight to drive around on the sand beaches.

If you're here when we have snow, just about every residential neighborhood is snow wheeling as the plows don't bother to show up.

Otherwise, wheeling in Nebraska is pretty sparse. When people ask me about my truck and where I go wheeling, my response is: "I'm 8 hours from anywhere interesting to go wheeling."

Western South Dakota (Black Hills, Badlands), Western Colorado (Rainbow Falls, Medano Pass, etc.), Land Between the Lakes in Western Kentucky - those are my 'local' favorites. All 8+ hours away from Lincoln.

What about Tuttle Creek in KS? People go there. I would like to go sometime this spring/early summer to check that out. It is about 2.5 hours from where I live (East of Lincoln).

We did a trip there about 15 or so years ago. Varied terrain. Shale rock hill climbs, some rock ledge hill climbs, mud flats, and some deep, some very deep, mud holes. There are pictures and a few videos of that trip - and a few others that I did not go on - here in the flatland cruisers forum.

Tuttle creek is a fairly fun testing/proving ground. But, it is pretty much a day-pass kind of place. It is a 2 hour drive from Lincoln, so possible to do it as a day trip assuming no carnage. @corn man has some good photos and videos of the trip I was on.

I think it would be good for shake-down - Some people are doing knuckles, body mounts etc. I can throw some dates out - Late May - Early June? gives about 7 weeks before SAS to address stuff?

I have graduations etc going on Mid May - but really - most any weekend - some have slower rigs - and will need 2.5 hours from Lincoln :geek:
