Throwing this out there to see if anyone is up to do a day run anywhere? Ideas?

Frank

I would love to, will all just depend on when/where/format of the trip - given family visiting, etc... Anza is easy (would look to find some place never been before), LCIR, Thomas Mountain/Santa Rosa Mountains. Heck the trip I took out to Picacho State Rec area (on Colorado River CA/AZ border) was only 2:45mins to trailhead, sometimes takes that long to get out and back from Anza!

Are we talking day trip? Overnight? Weekend? Mid-week?

Zac just posted almost exactly what I was going to say.

Also, depending on snow, Big Bear could still be in play.

Oh and I just saw "day run" on Frank's OP. I'm down for a day run, might also be up for an overnight, I'm just itching to get another trip in before the family storms in. Looking at the calendar my folks leave on the 29th (Friday before New Years) technically giving me a 4 day weekend. Hmmmmmmmmm...

Just checked the calendar, I’m off the 29th-1st as well.

But that doesn’t work for a day trip with Jared and fam.

There’s also Cleghorn for a day trip.

Alright I didn't realize he was in town only through the 29th. Let's look at the potential of two trips, a day trip between 22nd and 29th and a potential overnight the weekend of 12/29 - 1/1? That said, for the day trip I could only make 12/23 or 12/26.

I am indisposed the 23rd. The 26th could work. I am not adverse to an overnighter closer to new years as well.

I think I'm heading to Death Valley area with a buddy from NC Dec 23 to 26th.

If I dont go to a DV I'm in for a day trip or overnight

We are out for these trips because of my stupid schedule, holiday trips and the mrs is having knee surgery...damn it.

Well, here are some thoughts.

I have never run Cleghorn and the pictures I see look great. Awesome views and varied challenge, something for everyone. Looks like about a 2 hour drive to the trail. I am thinking though for a day run 2 hours travel time is probably the most I'd tackle. Might be fun to do a BB trip where we run this and end up in BB. The run a trail on our way out of BB the next day?

LCIR could be awesome if we can get the rangers to work out the whole gate / key thing. Honestly, for a day trip that would probably maximize our trail time and minimize our travel time.

I think the first run I ever did with the club was Thomas/Sawmill and was another really fun run. Barney lead that one. I'd say that is another great option for maximizing trail time vs. travel time.

The second camping trip I did in the 60 was Picacho/Chocolate mountains area. For me, the drive there and back probably eats up too much time for a day run.

Thoughts on an overnighter in BB? Maybe we can take over one of the cottage/motel places there?

Hotels might be pricey during the holiday. I’ll probably yellow post.

Good point and I noticed Bear Mountain, etc... is running so probably limited availability.

Should do a poll or something for a day run the 26th and an overnighter say the 29th?

Poll sounds good, though if our fearless leader is out on the 23rd why bother! Is there anyone NOT available on the 26th that wants to attend and has another date to suggest?

Also for other day trip ideas:

I'm out for the 23rd, 26-28th.
