I am heading up to Santa Rosa and then further to Sea Ranch/ Gualala area towards the mid to end of the the month. I am visiting some family, I was hoping to find a few trails to run while I am up there. I would especially love to find some foresty stuff up by Gualala area. I am not able to break away for a long range adventure, but if I could find something no more than an hour out of SR or up near the coast that would be really great. I am taking my new 85 Toyota p/u all the way up from San Diego, so it would be a real treat to get to break it in up there. If you have any suggestions please PM me what you have.. I have no lockers, but I have some decent travel and some 35s.

I greatly appreciate any suggestions you all have:cheers:

I'm not aware of too many destinations here in SR, I'm sorry to say. I know they're here, kids in my old high school used to talk about going to them on the weekends, and I see plenty of muddy trucks in the winter, I just don't know where they go to find these places. unfortunately, Sonoma county's dead-set on making itself "civilized" and alot of good spots are getting closed off, or built over. There are a few places near Duncan's Mills I've seen in passing that looked nice, and I did "wheel" my Oldsmobile off of Freezeout Gulch there one summer.

I'm also sorry to say I don't know much about Gualala at all.

hmm

When we walk in the neighborhood I see all kinds of built rock crawlers...wonder where they are going?

Thanks chuck, I wish someone had some info:hhmm:

If you're passing through town and need a place to stop over at, grab a drink or whatever, let me know, I'm on the east end of town in the hill country.

thank you

Hey thanks I am going to be in the NW part of town. I might be able to swing by. I am pleading with the princess to let me take the new pick up.

Lets see or hear about your new pick up? I know a little about Yodaman, from the article a while back, must be pretty sweet!

I emailed the president of this club with the same question and got no response..

Are you buying David's truck, the 83?

Whatever works out for you, I'm starting training as a Night Auditor at work, so I'll be home much of the day now.

I am buying an 83, but not that specific one, I was supposed to get it yesterday, but the PO never went to the shop to sign the papers for the sale.

I take no responsibility for the legality of it, but... We used to go up Annapolis Rd from Hwy 1, over the hill past the Sea Ranch airport and the fire station and down to the river. At the river there's a quarry next to the first bridge and some gates on the other side of the third bridge.

annapolis, ca - Google Maps

Depending on your luck you may be able to get down to the river at one place or the other. I don't know about south, but you can get at least a few miles north with multiple river crossings. At the Sea Ranch beach (<--link), which is not marked or anything, you can probably get up to their dirt road from the river. It's not much for 4x4 up there, but it's pretty.

All the land to the west of the river is owned by a logging company. We were never bothered about riding mountain bikes over there, but in a 4x4 ymmv. Watch out for growers too.

That's right, the growers are taking over.
Good info there, Fast Eddy, I'd love to visit there sometime, I have vague childhood memories of some nicely rough trails along the eel river outside Willits my late uncle used to frequent.
I know Gualala ("Hog-waller" as he once called it) isn't too far off, near Fort Bragg as I recall.
