Looking for 2" spacers to possibly run FZJ80 alloys on my 62 (correct me if I'm wrong but IIRC they have 4.5" backspace, right?). Whatever they are, I want a final backspace of 2.5".

Now, whichever size spacers I end up needing (if I can get over my fear of running spacers at all, ha), which material would be better? I would imagine steel, since it would allow higher torque to hold it against the hubs.

Thoughts?

i ran aluiminum spacers on my 60 to fit 80 wheels...no problems. Ultimately I switched to a Sky Mfg widening kit for the front axle and shortened a 80 rear by 2" for the rear.

Were you running the 80 series 16x8" wheels? That's what I'm leaning heavily towards now. Still have to verify the exact backspace of them, but by doing this I'm ultimately wanting to allow for a future conversion to an FZJ80 rear myself for the locker and factory disc brakes. Then I could keep the spacers up front and, obviously, not have to worry about using spacers on the rear to retain the wider wheelbase I want.

I ran aluminum 1-1/2" spacers on my FJ40 for years...never an issue. Broke lots of stuff, the spacers were fine.

Yes on the FZJ-80 Alloy wheels (16" x 8").

The 16x8 80 series wheels have 0 offset, 4.5" backspacing.

The earlier ones (about 93-94) are designed for acorn style lugnuts, and the lugnuts centre the wheel; so no issues running on spacers.

The later ones (about 95-97) are designed for shank style lugnuts, and the wheel is centred by the hub; most spacers do not have a "hub" ring so you'll have to take greater care to centre these wheels on spacers. To centre these wheels without a tight fitting hub, you can use 3 acorn style lugnuts to temporarily position the wheel, then tighten it down with 3 shank style lugnuts, and finally replace the 3 acorn style lugnuts with 3 shank styles ones. Takes more time to describe it than to do it.

g'luck, -Steve

Good advice on centering the hub centric wheels. I'm going to try to get the earlier wheels just so I can avoid that potential issue. But if I end up with later wheels now I know how I can deal with them.

Where did you guys get your spacers? I'm still trying to find a set of 2", but everywhere I look has only 1.5" in their largest.

So I found a company that will make 2" billet aluminum spacers in either hub centric or lug centric, whichever I specify when I order. Is there any reason I should choose one over the other?

As of now I'm leaning towards ordering all four as lug centric.

What company made the spacers for you?

I need to make the same spacers

I need to make the same spacers

The cost ended up being damn near $400 for a set of spacers from those guys. I don't doubt they have a good product, but being made to order really drove their prices up. I did find 1.5" and 2" lug centric (which after some research is what we want for 60/62 series and earlier, since hub centric will not fit over manual hubs) spacers machined from 6061-T6 billet here: https://www.allprooffroad.com/tech-info-mainmenu-63/spacers/toyspacers

Cost for a set with the extended lug nuts came to about $250, so I'll go with these guys when I'm ready to order.

If you do decide to run space, get some Spidertrax spacers. They're supposed to be the best and came recommended by numerous vendors when I was looking. I ended up just buying some new rims with the proper backspacing so I wouldn't have to worry about the spacers.

I've been running with 2in spacers for about 8mo they have given me no trouble. In fact they saved my body panels about two weeks ago. Going up this little rut the tires bounced off the side several times. If the rig would have been stock I would have had body rash!!
