Ok, hopefully not beating a dead horse but I don't think this one has been asked in this way.

The use of wheel of spacers on our rigs with after market wheels seems to be must for those looking for 16" wheels. The question is - is there a difference on the structure demand of the axle (and any other related parts) by using a spacer to return the new wheel to a stock backspacing or using a custom wheel 16" made with stock backspacing.

Assume all the variables are the same, rim size (16x8 or 16x10) with tires... etc the only difference is one uses a spacer to return it to stock backspacing and the other is made with stock backspacing.

(i hope this question makes sense)

Sorta makes sense! The main issue with wheel spacers is fxxxing with the wheel studs. You need to install longer, stronger studs. For all the trouble what are you really getting?

I'm looking at some custom wheels built with proper backspacing that I'm ok with look wise but after it's all said and done price wise it comes out to be about the same as if I would have bought some nice American Racing wheels with spacers cost included. So if there's no difference in amount of force/stress that I'm putting on the axle (componets) with the larger custom built wheel or the wheel (that I like the looks of better) with spacers I might go the spacer route.
