I am looking for a 270-degree awning to mount to my Rhino Rack. What do you have? What do you like/dislike about it?

Thanks in advance.

I have just installed a Bush Company 270XT last month on my ARB Base rack, love it, deploys in 20 seconds, free standing, solid frame and pivot points, very well engineered and packs away in under 60 seconds.
People ask me about it so I show them its that easy. I had a standard square with posts, guy ropes and pegs on my 100 for 14 years and only used it 10 times, just to much effort, I have already used this one more.
Any interference with the top hatch diffuser when fully open?

Here's a recent testimonial to the durability of the Quick Pitch awning that survived a strong storm with 60-80kph winds:

Depending on height mounted it will hit the spoiler. It’s manageable though.
That could Be an issue.. my tailgate is the main table so I need to make sure the hatch can fully open. I am putting lights, paper towels and some other stuff there.
I’ll give them a call but if any owners are here please let me know

Thanks

The diffuser does not touch but the arm does stop the tailgate hatch opening all the way, probably an inch, the arm touches the lens on the tailgate and I have a piece of thin rubber to protect it. Does not cause a problem, with 35” tyres and lift I have it set as low as possible on my Base rack for appearance, clearance and access.

I will be better able to answer this this weekend as the quick pitch is going on the 200.

I know on my 100 it’s currently on it hits the spoiler, but I have found a way around it.

I can attest to this scenario as well.

We were at the lake last year and went out on the water with a friend, left the awning and tent fully set up not thinking about storms rolling through.

Well it came a down pour, super winds, stormed its ass off for about 45 min. To the point we couldn’t see 100’ away from the dock we just got lucky and slipped into.

After we got everything back under control boat wise I remembered the tent/ awning and was sick to myself thinking the awning would be destroyed and the tent wet inside.

We got back a few hours later and were beyond impressed with everything. The tent was 100% dry inside (I left the windows halfway open), and the awning although holding a couple puddles of water was 100% fine as well.

That right there solidified the setup for me.

How we left it that day. (Pre cruiser day)

Feckin’ forum. Just pulled the trigger on a Bush XT. Will be mounted on the pax side of Roofnest Falcon.
Sorry if I helped cause your weekness, there are some good videos on install on Bush company site but nothing explains how to work out the holes in the bag, I found this guys explanation and trial fit very helpful.

I ended up getting the OVS 270 awning. It was easy to mount to the Rhino Rack. It does interfere with the tailgate but not the spoiler.

Overall the only thing I don't love is that it's not super easy to pack up. Ive only done it once so I'm sure it'll get easier with time.

My main reason for getting it was price. At list it's one of the cheaper options and I found it for 30% off on top of that.

Looks a lot sturdier than the cheapest 270 I've found which is the Ironman at 25% off right now for $450...

Trying to pregame a little. I’m planning to mount using the Roofnest Falcon awning brackets as I don’t have a rack- I’ve got the Falcon sitting on crossbars directly on a Rhino backbone. I will use three brackets as they rate 2 at 50lbs. I may drill a third hole in each bracket for extra retention in the tent rail, and also look for some wider threaded feet. Anyone else done something similar with a Falcon? I don’t have a dimensioned drawing of the Bush brackets but looks like I’ll need to make an adapter plate.

These are the brackets that come with the awning which you assemble made from S/S you may be able to modify to attach to Roofnest fittings, the mounting bolts are at 120 mm centres.

I've had various awnings and never really enjoyed them. I always found the setup to be a bit cumbersome but probably since I never had a free standing one. I can see where a free standing 270 awning has it's advantages such as quick setup and breakdown, no poles needed, and having it with you at all times. The cons are weight, size, and really the big bulky 270 awning are kinda of ugly on a rig.

I picked up the Kelty Waypoint tarp on a whim for a trip since I don't have an awning on my vehicle yet. So far I've enjoyed using it. It doesn't weight much and is portable from vehicle to vehicle. Because it is sloped on both sides I don't really need to worry about positioning or what side the sun is shining. It covers the rear of the vehicle and that's the place we hang out anyways, not the side of the vehicle. It provides good protection in the rain and from the sun. First two pictures are on the 200 series and the last two pictures are on a Tundra. Another pro that I noticed was that if I used my propane fire pit under the tarp it would essentially trap some of heat underneath it and funnel it into the cargo space or truck bed. It made for a warm place to hang out and the dogs enjoyed the warm truck bed on a cool Moab night. It also only cost $130 bucks at REI. Slumberjack gear sells something similar called the Roadhouse tarp.
