There is a box with a slot on the right side of the glove box. I can't figure out what it's for. Can somebody enlighten me?

You're right, it's for the Navigation disk. It is mentioned at the very end of the 2nd user manual.

It costs around $250 for the 4Runner DVD update at the dealership. I would assume it's about the same for the LC. I receive a notice from Toyota whenever an update is available.
It's the slot where you insert the disc you downloaded for free on BitTorrent, lol.
Dealership says they are not out yet. Maybe after the first of the year and will go for $199
Before you buy ask the dealership if there have been updates in your region since your version of the map. Here in Albuquerque the maps barely changed from 2004-2010. Finally the 2011 maps updated this area.
the maps are usually updated every 18-24 months and they are usually special order part.
