Hey guys,

Can someone give me the step by step procedure for swaping out my 2f head for a 3f head?

I obviously want the EFI in my truck, instead of doing an engine swap maybe it would be easier to but a 3f head on my 2f block.

I'm a novice mechanic who's not sure if this can be done in his garage with basic tools. Is it as simple as removing the carb, disconnecting the intake and exhaust, pulling off the valve cover, and taking off the head? Or is it more involved?

Do I need to change out the electrical harness?

What do I do with the EFI computer?

If you want EFI based on the 3FE in your FJ60 here's what you'll need to do:

Find a wrecked or rust bucket FJ62 so that you'll have all the parts you'll need.

Dismantle it and label everything.

Then into the 60 transfer the wiring harness, fuel system, computer, head, intake and exhaust, and other small things I'm forgetting. In order to accomplish having the 3FE head etc, on the 2F block there will be some bracket fabbing to be done.

Now what about the tranny? Do you want an auto or a manual? If you want an auto just go buy a good FJ62. If you want EFI and a manual go buy an FJ62 and swap in a 4 or 5 speed because that will be a whole lot easier than sticking the EFI stuff from a 62 into a 60.

Can I just leave the 4 speed manual in the FJ60?

I want my 60, I just want the EFI. Getting an FJ62 for parts is fine but I don't want one to drive...

Thanx for the info.

2F block is about 100x easier to put under a 3FE head than a 3FE head is to put atop a 2F block. Make your 60 a parts truck, and transfer your goodies to a nicer 62 (tranny, block, front end)

I just finished the 3FE/H55 in my FJ-60 so if you want to know anything ask while it is still fresh in my mind. :D

I contemplated doing the same swap last year. There is too many things that have to be changed in a 60 to put the 3fe head and EFI. In my opinion it was not worth it.

If it is that much work then I'll just keep the FJ60 stock...I'm just going to have to get a new carb or something.

Thank you everyone.

Come on now!

Is this really that bad of an idea? If it is to be set up without smog and a complete donor is available, how is more complicated than a sbc swap? I don't want to pull the whole motor, but maybe that is the best solution for this type of project? The fuel pump seems to be the biggest hurdle I have read about so far. I guess I will find out when it is all apart.

Is there a better solution for fuel injection. The kits I have seen are pricey, and there are not too many positive posts on the results.

Depends on what you want. If you want Toyota EFI in a FJ60 and you have a complete donor it's not that bad of a project. About 95% is simply swapping parts which will bolt-up. The gas pedal has to be reworked a little and a couple or three holes have to be drilled in the firewall. But with a donor you'll have all the parts you need and then it's a matter of keeping everything straight.

With the fuel pump just swap the 62 tank/fuel pump into the 60.
