I started looking for a 470 a few months back, and heard all the good things about the 4.7 (as long as it's maintained.) My search has since shifted to a 460- folks keep saying they're better bang for the buck, improved on all "shortcomings" of the 470, etc etc.

How well has the 460 aged compared to the 470?

I'm looking at a '10 460 with 130K miles. Service records are super solid, some of the best I've seen in 3 months of searching, which is why I'm willing to pull the trigger. But my gut is questioning why I'm about to drop a chunk of change on a vehicle (a daily driver, work vehicle, road trip vehicle, family and raft hauler, CO mountain pass crawler, desert explorer and 4x4 trail head access) with 130K miles. I couldn't care less about vented seats, and I could get a 470 with similar or less mileage for $3-5K less.

Ultimately it's your call. Unfortunately for many buyers, Toyotas don't devalue that much - even after 100k miles. You can look here for some opinions:

As with Ford's, Jeeps, Chevy's, etc. at 100k miles they are just about done, ready for a new tranny, cooling system, valve job, whatever.
A Toyota at 100k, it's just getting broken in! My last Landcruiser had 260k when I got rid of it and only because the paint and leather was all burnt out on it. But mechanically: stout! Exact same thing for my wife's LC. Sold hers at 285k mileage and that could have been driven cross country no problem, it's just the paint and leather was gone. Too much surf, sand and sun...

Just make sure it was maintained. My 460 has 152k on it and I would not hesitate to take it anywhere. Same for other high mileage Toyota’s I have owned.

130K with a great history wouldn't bother me one bit. I too started shopping for 470s and quickly changed course to the 460. Now with my 105K mile 460, I'm glad I didn't settle for the 470.

The interior is dated, but still less dated than the 470 and that means some little comforts for me.

The 4.6 has a timing chain, not belt like the 4.7, which over a long ownership will save you some of that price difference.

Modifications are a little further behind on the 460, but catching up.

I always buy the lowest milage of whatever car I am buying. Regardless of age. I do think the added power of the Gx460 is better than my wives Gx470 we previously had. Go with your gut! Not having to do a timing belt is also nice. See if the service records show a transmission flush and also transfercase flush. I always thought these two items are crucial, due to the heat they are subjected to. Just my two cents. You will love either one.
