So my family and I are signed up for the Maya Rally which is basicly us going to the yucatan peninsula for the month of Dec. I will arrive in the states in a few months and have a few months to get a vehicle ready for the trip. my question is what would be the better choice?
My wifes daily driver is an 07 H3 with adventure package. This vehicle is fairly capable offroad and drives rather nicley on the road and gets us about 20 mpg, and would require the least amount of money to get it ready to go. The H3 already has lockers and is riding on fairly new 285/75/16 all terrains with full size spare. I would simply need a roof rack of some sorts to aid with some of our gear and a winch in the front which i already own just have to mount up.

I have an 07 F250 that has basicly been relegated to pulling duty when I go wheel my Fj40. The F250 has the most space for our family of 5 but it would reqire the most amount of money to get it ready to go. the truck already has 35" mud terrain tires but it came with 20" rims from the factory so not neccarily a good combo for multi purpose use

And last I have the 69 FJ40 which is basicly my daily driver when Im in the States. This is the most offroad capable vehicle I have but it has the least amount of room for us. It is perfect for going to the beach and to the lake with the family but hardly the most ideal vehicle to go on a roughly 5k mile trip.

The H3 being smaller would make us a little tighter with all our gear but would make up for it in its nimbleness and smaller size when trying to get to the perfect beach spot. The F250 with its spaciousness would give us the ability to have better sleeping configuration and more room while traveling but would be limited by its size on where it could go.

So what do you guys have as far as suggestions?
Yes I know, I need a 60 or 80!!!

Yep... Buy mine. I've also got a Frankie's 3 inch lift I'll make you a deal (shameless plug)

Del for me i'd almost do the F250 due to my size but realistically the H3 is the best choice there by far. Sounds like all you may need for a good family wheeling adventure trip is a roof rack and an ARB fridge

thanks for the replies fellas.

I would love to get a 60 or an 80 and might at a later date but just cant justify a 5th vehicle at this time.

How do you get 20 mpg out of the h3??? My little brother gets like 15!

It is my wifes daily driver and she does not speed EVER. She does not have a very heavy foot either. We have averaged 19 to 21 MPG since we bought it brand new in 07.

Other than that I have been pretty religous with the maintenance and used full synthetic fluids for the first 75K miles. It currently has around 85K to 90K miles.

I might be in the market for an 80 for this trip after all. I think I am going wait until I get back and see what is on the market. I missed a great deal on that Raffle 60 that went up for sale earlier in the month.

H3 is rated by every magazine as getting 21mpg so I believe it easily.
