Finnally out of CA! Now in Bozeman, MT
I never thought something like this would happen, but the way gas prices are going, and the amount of driving I have to do, (between CA and MT, and then between bozeman, and our ranch 200 miles away) I may consider selling the LC. I have told myself gas needs to make it to the $2.90 -$3.00 range first, and then stay there. What i am wondering is how much I could get for it. It's an 85 Fj-60, with 197xxx miles on it, within the last 1000 miles all fluids have been changed, it has gotten new 31 inch BFG Land Terrain tires (less that 300 miles on them) new cap, rotor and plugs, all bearings and seals were replaced on the front axle, new slave cylinder, new rear shocks, and new steering stabilizer. Within the past 20,000 miles it has gotten a new clutch (flywheel and all), new head, valves and lifters, new thermostat, new hoses and belts, new carb, front calipers, rotors, pads, and lines all replaced, cat back exhaust, had the radiator recored, 1 1/2 inch lift shackles with greasable pins, all spring bushings replaced, bosch platinum 4 spark plugs installed, and it has a new clarion radio, cd, sattelite radio set up. I don't know how long ago it was, but the P/O replaced the power steering pump, and the master cylnders for the brakes and clutch. It has no rust, -except a tiny strip (1 inch long) on the back hatch below the window-, paint is in pretty good shape, except in a few spots on the hood, I have always kept it washed and waxed, so it looks good, it starts up the first time everytime even when it is below freezing, interior has a few stains on the carpet in the back, seats have no rips or tears, and have always had covers on them, dash has no cracks, it has tinted windows, hella lights on the front, a wilderness roof rack, and a little light nounted on the back of the rack for camping. The only bad things i can think of is that it drips a drop of oil about the size of a dime every now and then, the carb cooling fan does not work-the sensor wire got burned through, and i just haven't been able to repair it, the after market cruise control just mysteriously stopped working one day, the cigarette lighter has a broken wire and therefore doesn't work, and the hose to the drivers side headlamp washer got a hole in it, so whenever the resivoir is filled it just all drains out after one spray. It drives straight and has no squeaks or rattles, and can cruise at 65/stop from 65 without you needing to have a hand on the wheel. Yeah thats about all i can think of right now, so if i were to consider selling it  within the next few months what do you think it would be worth? Hopefully it won't come to it, but I am still curious.
thanks

Sounds pretty good. I bet your gonna have a range from ebay to collector. Low ball, fast sell is gonna be in the range of 3000$. Reasonable sell to a mudder is more like 4k and someone who has never heard of this site and wants a LC to resotre 5-6k. Ball park. This is based on what I have seen cruzahs going for (got mine for less that 2k). Good Luck!

You could easily get 3-4 from some city slicker from the East... ;)

Figure out what you might replace it with. Let's say its gets 30mpg on average. Figure out the savings in gas, then subtract higher insurance costs if its newer, higher registration fees if its newer, maitanance stuff - all used cars need something. How many gallons of gas can you buy for a set of new tires? Yea, the Cruiser will cost more per miles in terms of gas but at least lay out the numbers to figure out how much more.

I am looking at 95-97 audi a6's. With the 2.8 6 cyl. I went and test drove a 96 today with the quattaro, and man was it nice. One owner, local car, with 81,000 miles. It was just serviced, has newer tires, gets about 28-32 MPG, and can supposedly go something like 500 miles on one tank. Soooo.....this is looking rather attractive, especially for the Montana to Ca drive that I will be doing several times this year.

yeah, I have talked it over with many people, and every single god damn person has said "keep the landcruiser, it has so many memories, is such not a "normal car", and is just soo cool, there is no way you can get rid of it, it is such a part of you"..........so yeah, I think I better keep it for a little while longer, otherwise I am going to have just a few people who are going to be mad at me. And I have realized that I just love the damn thing too much. I am going to have to drive it for another 197k I think, then, perhaps I can consider getting rid of it...............
