Hello.

I have just bought a 1985 HJ 60 that have lockers in front and rear axle.
I have never seen this type before. It is vacum operated.
All lockers I have seen, like ARB or Toyota cable lockers, is operated thru the diferensial carrier.
This locker, as you can see on the picture, is mounted on the axle housing.

What is it?
The owner before me had the car for 3 years but he did not know, it was an earlier owner that mounted it.

Best regards,
Jan Terje

Could it be a McNamara diff?

I have just bought this car so I have a car to drive from Norway to Germany thursday to Bushtaxi meeting, so I have not open anything yet.
But next week I have to do like al boys do with their new toys, I must open it and see what it is:D

I have seen the vacum McNamara diff.
http://www.mcnamaradiffs.com.au/difflock1.html

But for me the big question is how this works. Because the acumulator is in the axle housing. Normaly, like ARB or Toyota cable lockers, everything is mounted on the carrier. How is the acumulator conected to the diff?

When I open one of the axles I will post pics. And today I will go to the Norwegian car registrasion office and ask for a list of previously owners. Maybe I can get in contact with the man with the answers.

I can also tell you that this is the only thing that is interesting about this car.

exiting, solli! I'm watching, I also am wondering how it is connected on the inside!
any other mods on the new rig?
does the rest of the locker setup look like homebrew, or kit-ish?
does not seem to be plug an play, that locker!
;)
