What Trail Gear Bumper Wil Fit On The Front Of My Japanese Hilux PU?

Trail Gear was no help because they don't give a fxxx about anyone. Don't spend your money there, there are plenty of other shops, and manufacturers out there that will be willing to spend the time to help you out because they care.

strange:confused: any questions that i have ever had for Trailgear that they did not know off the top of there head they said a tech would call me back i always got a call back from one of there tech guys with the answer that i was looking for

Its mostly their business ethics that I am considering and their use of cheap recycled chinese metals as opposed to using American made steel. There are lots of other little things, like the fact that they no longer provide zerk fittings for their high steer kit. They claim they are "greased for life". The few times I did do any business with them their customer service was terrible and the people I talked to did not know how to answer any questions I had and were generally unhelpful. Spend your money where you want, glad you like their bumper. Just throwing out my opinion, thats all. Post some pics when you get that thing installed. Nice Hilux too, lucky SOB! :flipoff2:

If you did some research you will see what shady things that TG has done in the past. Like it has been said before, most of the time they are absolutely no help, and if you have any issues with their product they won't back it and tell you it is your fault. I hope you have better luck than the rest of us.

Hey guys I am looking at Trail Gears front bumper on their website and am wondering what one I order since I have an 89 Hilux RHD pickup with the solid axle front end.

Will the bumper for the Pickup 89-95 fit or do I need the early one for my truck?

I don't want to order the wrong one.

Here is a link to the bumpers page: Trail-Gear Inc > Toyota Bumpers

I need either Pickup Model #1 or Pickup Model #3 just not sure which one.

I attachecd a few pics of the front of my truck to help you see what front end is on the truck if that helps... Just remember there is a stock solid front axle under there!

I emailed Trail Gear and they were NO help at all so I need you guys to assist if you can.

Thanks in Advance!!!

HC

man those new solid axle dual cab trucks,, give me the wood.

is the front end wider then my 85? or how did they correct the rear end being 3 inchs wider then my 85?? are there factory spacers?

I had to make my own front bumper to get one that I liked.

First of all this thread can be closed. I resolved my original question which was what bumper will fit on my truck. It turned out it was the 89 - 95 one.

Secondly I do not want to turn this in to a Trail Gear bashing thread. I am quite happy with their customer service and support as well as their price. Its my decision as to where I want to spend my money and trail gear did a great job of getting my business.

Side Note: I emailed marlin crawler a buch of stuff about their dual tcase adaptors oe a month ago and NEVER heard back and then emailed them AGAIN last week and still no answer. While I know MC has great products they get thumbs down becasue their customer service sucks from what I see so far. I know this may no tbe the case for everyone but for me I am not happy with them so far. ANYWAY...

The trucks are not "New" they have made them all over the world (except north america) from 89 - 97 in generation 3 and then to the latest 4 dr tacos which are available here.

Hiluxgeneration3

The front is EXACTLY the same as your 85 in width... But there are some slight differences... They kind of combinded the early and late front ends... Its always a challenge figuring things out on the front end.

There are no spacers as far as I know... Perhaps I am not follwoing you.

Anyway.... Over and Out!

I guess I should have said newer....

85 was the last straight front axle here.
I do have questions.
i would like to see more pictures of your front axle.
Is it factory cross over or the same push pull as the 85's?
just wondering about any upgrades over the 85 axle.

ps I had great service from trail gear. I liked their twin sticks better then anyone elses.

For the record if I actually expect results from a company, I CALL them, not email them...

Do you email Toyota if you have a question about how much a an oil change will cost at their service department? I guess I am old fashioned but every single time I have called Marlin Crawler, or All Pro, or Downey, or Northwest Toyota, etc, during regular business hours, they answered. If not, I left a message, and I was promptly called within the next day or two. There is no reason this post should be "closed"... do we not have the right to voice our opinion on anything?

Get with the times! Email is the now and I don't have time during my work day to call them during their business hours so they have this wonderful tool called email. Perhaps if they can not answer their email they should remove that option from their website. Anyway, as I said my question has been answered and this thread is stupidly off topic now so I am done with it.

Have a nice day.

A friend of mine got the same truck, so I will answer...

The axle looks the same, no need for pix.

The upgrades are brakes, ifs calippers and wented rotors. I think steering is the same. The rear axle also have larger brakes and thicker driveshafts.

For the record, I am also very happy with TG

I just changed the settings so you can view them as a guest. Head on over!

thanks for the front end pictures.

just wow, it really is an 85 front end with the steering on the wrong side :D.
same dropped pitman arm that I tried to work with. have 2 of them for sale.
I just would have thought that it would have changed alot, for the better.

so I am going to guess that they could not improve it. cost, manufacturing ect...
I now feel better that they could not come up with anything more aw some.

thanks again for the pictures.
my wife and I both run 85 Toyota's.
longs, gears, lockers, just wanted to know if there was a better Toyota front end out there.

Knixen.... Can you tell me what you did for reinforcing? I would like to see some photos of your modifications to the winch plate so I don't run in to the same issue.

Thanks

I cant show you a picture because I dont have one, and now it wouldnt show.

But if you see the winch mount, the two top bolt holes werent in use. I had to weld in an angle iron with trussed sides. I welded it on top of the ....dont know the name... I`m Norwegian! But you`ll see, just one opportunity.

So how is everybody's bumpers holding up? I welded and bolted mine to the frame.....or that cross member. Seems to be fairly strong.
