I sold my '16 4Runner and found an '18 GX 460 w/ 25K miles for $39K that I'm going to go look at tomorrow at a BMW dealership.

It came from Pennsylvania so I'm thinking it may have rust. Where all should I check for it?

Also, what else should I look at? I've never sat in a Lexus so this is all new to me.

Not being from the "rust belt" of the country I'd imagine start with putting it up on a rack and inspect the entire under carriage.
These rigs are pretty solid. I can't think of any chronic issues like on most American vehicles.
Having many Toyota products, for me they're not even broke in until you click 6 digits on the odometer!
At 25k miles, heck it's probably only had the oil changed 4 times! It has synthetic oil, probably twice.
Yes, you'll read some stories about valley leaks, or one thing or the other, but if you ask most anyone here, they'll say it's the exception, not the rule.
So the short answer is there is really nothing to worry about.
Hope this helps!

In a vehicle that new shouldn’t be any worn components like cv axles or belts but I’d visually inspect. Know there’s a potential for camshaft tower leak. I’d check all belts for wear. I compared 2 2018’s with 40k miles and the one from New Jersey was in appreciable worse shape rust wise underneath than the one from SC. But the one from SC had some scratches and dents “lacrosse mom” type of stuff. I chose the one from SC because I was looking to lift it ASAP and didn’t want any seized bolts, also I was gonna off-road it so scratches and dings were bound to happen. There’s a really good pre inspection video on YouTube from a Houston garage that goes over all the finer details on a GX.
Also that’s a really good price for that mileage if it all checks out. I’d also invest in a Full CARFAX report.

Thanks for the info!

I decided to pass on it as after doing the service records lookup online it had nothing beyond the PDI entries at 23 miles. The fact the dealer couldn't even tell me what trim level it was didn't inspire confidence either. Also, when I asked about rust he just said that the body looked clean and wouldn't look at the frame for me.

I just didn't feel like driving 100 miles each way to find out it was extremely rusty since it didn't have any maintenance records.

If I was driving that far I’d have wanted a video inspection before I went. I doubt it was that bad… but dealers aren’t going to try really hard right now. In this market I bet it sold fast. Good luck finding your perfect GX if that’s still what you’re looking for.

Something I figured out while looking for GXs last year is that there are a lot of "crashed and repaired former leases" out there among the GXs that occupy the late model, under 40,000 mile space.
Whenever I found a GX that was quite a bit cheaper or lower mileage than the average in my search criteria it was crashed and repaired.
I would also look out for excessive interior wear and tear as it seems like a lot of people lease them, trash them for 3 years, then lease a new one.
