What to expect at 200k?

Hey guys!

Been looking for a 100 for a while, and starting to think I might open up my search field to include some "higher" mileage vehicles.

I've come across a few decent looking options but at 200k, I've moved on past them. But knowing that the 100 is so rock solid, I'm thinking I might be doing myself a disservice by ignoring them.

Can anyone tell me what I should plan for/expect/budget in if I pick up something at 200k? Obviously I'd be looking for something that's had maintenance items taken care of, so the big picture stuff like timing belt should hopefully be covered.

What is expected to happen between 200k and 300k? I figure it'll be 8-10 years before hitting 300k, and after 10 years, I really wouldn't even care if I had to do a rebuild.

I really appreciate any input and advice you guys might have! Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't expect anything on it to fail, but inevitably you will have items fail in 100k miles of use. You might go through a second power steering rack if the first one was replaced before 150k miles. CV boots are also a guaranteed wear item. I personally budget $100 a month for maintenance and repair on mine.

If you purchase one over 200k that's been maintained, I'd change out the thermostat and heater t's first thing if it hasn't been done, lack of coolant seems to be the only real issue that stops the 4.7l. Other than that, just keep up with the maintenance and be ready to shell out some cash when something breaks.

That's a good question. My wife's has over 260k miles and I still don't have an answer for you. The oil on the dip stick hasn't moved a drop in over 10 years.

Except when I change it when it's dirty. :)

One thing I don't see people talking about is the fan clutch. On the 80-series these would go out between maybe 150-200k mi. I am planning to just proactively replace mine on the 100's in the next year or so.
