Hope everyone is doing well. We are preparing for #3 to be here on June 10th and eventhough we have proved that you can squeeze 3 car seats across the back row of our 4runner. :)

Now the debate. What to do.....

Options at this point.

a. Buy a really nice 100 ('03+ or '00+ really clean and all the perks) like this 2003 Toyota Landcruiser, Safe, Reliable, BEST OFFER or a low milage '00-'02and sell my wife 4runner.
- Issues with this would be that I still have 2 other vehicles that arent 100% dependable. We love our 4runner, longest I have ever owned a vehicle and I love the way it drives, etc. Again its not a rare vehicle if I have to have one later I can get one. Although it woudl be truly missed.
- Positives I get to keep my 62 and continue to build it. Safer vehicle for my wife and kids.

b. Buy a 100 with more miles (under 150K) with a few bumps and bruises (scratches, etc) and build it for my offroading rig. (Like Calamaridog 's rig https://forum.ih8mud.com/vehicles-t...9772-2000-uzj100-$12-000-obo.html#post3298032 ) or 2000 Toyota LandCruiser / Land Cruiser - Single Owner!
- Issues with this is I would sell my 62 and do I really want to wheel a car that would get used for family trips and some of my wifes DD duties (which she does with the 62 now, but not much). I also love my 62 and the body style, but realize that it might not be the best fit for us as far as with kids and stuff, mainly b/c of how I have built it, and the rust. I know I can buy a 60/62 later down the road if the bug hits me. It not like its a rare vehicle.
- Positives we would have 2 dependable vehicles that we could jump in and take 3+ hrs to my family or on vacation or other trips if need be. I could have a comfortable easy driving rig for a DD and it would be sweet!

Either way the 100 will get a ARB or TJM front bumper of some form, they have proved a life saver for us on multiple occasions with deer and other things. If I get it to wheel I will lift it and do a min of 33's maybe 35's and the usual gear, will be buil dfor expedition stuff, with the hardest wheeling I would prob get into being Cullowhee.

Dont bring up a mini-van its not an option, if we have anymore and the 100 wont hold them then I amgetting a Powerstroke Excursion. :)

Go with the "wheelable" hundy. They're gonna be reliable as long as you want it to be, as you well know, for family stuff. And, if you get a newer one ('03+) you're still gonna want to build it. Take what you'll save on a 2000 and spend it on the offroad goodies.

Good luck with the decision.

$12,499 is really good for a '00 with 120K - I feel.
You should have lots left over to do anything you want between the '00 and '03.
If you don't mind scratches and small dings, they sure are easier to take on the trail when they are over one that was already there - IMHO.
I would not sell my '00 with 120K on it for close to $12,499 - I would want around $18 - that is how much
I love it and feel the value is to me and my family when in the snow or in the hills. I am sure the gas prices are driving down the going prices,
Good luck.

Someone was just saying the Y2K 100 series had some transmission problems. I would go with the 2003 and newer. You get the 5 speed auto with higher gear up top, and lower 1st gear for wheeling.

I'd buy a 2003 or newer and build it up for wheeling, but that's my opinion. Good luck.

well if you part the 62 i'll buy all the goodies....springs,lockers, and whatever else you got.

Cheers

I voted to sell the 62. I think that with fuel prices that the 4runner probably gets better mileage than the 62, and while I don't know your driving habits, I would think the 4runner could save you some money in fuel that you could dump into the 100.

But what do I know, I've got 1 cruiser and 1 kid. :meh:

Get an 03/04 with high miles (100k miles). Sell the 62 and 4runner. 04 has the reverse camera.

Cant make myself wheel a rig that nice or that expensive. Plus I wont have the $ to do both, we are talking about $7K-$10K diff, which is alot. We dont want a huge car payment, its been nice as we have been without one since our oldest was born 3.5yrs ago!

Look for a 100 with rear air...my girls love it.
Don't forget to look at 470's 1999 Lexus LX 470 Only 75k Miles!! Pristene Cond., Trade In, Loaded!

Thanks info, I have been looking @ the 470's this time around they look quite a bit more expensive. The rear air is a neccesity, so no '98 LC are being looked at. I think that I want to get a 100 with the ATRAC and VSC, that compared to a LC with a rear locker or the LX with the limited slip just makes more sense to go with the '00+. Especially since the prices are not that far apart anymore. Then you add the 2 vs 4 front pinion, it just makes sense.

Cant do that either, what would I wheel? Certainly not a $20K+ vehicle. And why sell both if I can go for a 89K mile '03 for $22K? If I did that I would for sure have to put a LSx into my wagon...hummm thats an idea...no no cant do it have to have somethign to wheel. :)

Keep the ideas coming. And if you knwo of any other 100's or parts out there let me know.

And yes my LX has the rear air with front and rear controls.;)

I hate to see a 100 used as a mall crawler... If it helps, they aren't delicate. I ran over some small sapplings with mine and it didn't even scratch the rubbermaid bumpers :D

Oooops, forgot. Congrats on the #3

Look at my 04 in excellent condition. $24000, 106,000 miles. Perfect. 970 2755352. All the options including side air bags and rear dvd.

Congrats on #3. I luv my 99. 130,000 miles no probs. Very impressed off-road, of course awesome onroad. More room than my 80.

Thanks for all of your advice. My wife and I talked it over and apparently I wasnt real clear or she didnt understand that if I sell my 62 and buy a 100 then it would be my car that I drive most of the time. I can understand and she has a way of helping me figure out what really makes sense and what doesnt.

So we are going to wait until after the baby is here to decide what to do. WHich makes sense, but man a 100 is sweet. :bounce: To me that means it wont be my truck going if we do anythign b/c I have to have something to wheel. Dunno, I am keeping my eyes open for almost anything as usual. :)
