just went on vacation, we hired a local high school girl to come in and stay for the week...$20.00 per day is what we paid her...2 dogs to care for and just generally be around the house...take in the mail....and no parties!....she did a great job and we will have her back the next time we go....

around here the pet sitters charge $50 a day to just stop by and feed. There is a "weird retired lady" that charges $25 per day... but she leaves a big mess and does not clean up any turds or pet mishaps.

$50 is cheap from home service. The doggie "hotel" is about $20/day.
in dallas they charge 14$ an hour to walk the dog, more for overnights

i called the local kennels today if they got them to take the 2 dogs and 2 cats it would be 36 bucks a day ... and no one to check on the house ... and that is here in podunk new mexico
That's cheap. We just got back and paid $27 a day for our dog to stay at the kennel. Our friend stopped by the house while we were away.
My wife was paying $15 per day for a 30 - 45 minute visit, and then would tip her as well.
All this for 1 cat. But we got a running letter with daily about the cat's habits, amount of food consumed and stool consistency.
Cat people are f***** up!
My opinion only. It did seem to be good money for what she really had to do though.
I'd think you should get more if you have to walk the dogs.

thanks for that and yes cat people are f'ed up for sure ...
we have two dogs and a cat...here in VA, we pay $18 a trip for a pet sitter to come in and let the dogs out, play with them, write up a report...
oh...and they are bonded and insured and doing it for a business....
I would think $25 a day is a decent deal for both parties, however, I would ask the people you plan to house sit for if they have an idea what they will pay. Maybe they are just thinking you are gonna do it out of the kindness of your heart...btdt...

they know i have no kindness of heart and are willing to pay .. just am not sure how much to ask or i may let them give me what ever ...
and this thread is a feeler to see about starting a little business to get be by while i try other venues and go to school ...
