C'mon, we need more people living on the wild side like me. 37's and STOCK gears in the moutains and hills of SoCal.

I'm still waiting for someone to donate 4.88's and ARB's. Anyone, anyone???

I wish there was a "Land Cruiser Makeover: Extreme Edition" television show and you guys could submit my name.

-or-

Waggoner could just man up and give me cable lockers. Two please.

After doing some more research on the whole lift subject, i am thinking of just running the basic 2.5 OME w/Dakar springs that Man A fre.. After all these posts I am going to run 33" tires and that lift should be enough to cover the lift, right? Also I would save about 800.00 bucks and can get an ARB at the same time...

This is a well-proven setup, with few drawbacks. You can add to it later if you need more. Since people have run this lift/tire combo w/stock gears, suggest you do the same to start. If it works fine for you, then you're done. If you decide you need deeper gears, then change 'em out. Needs vary by the individual, so set-ups do to.

That said, I agree with the other posters about checking out/fixing the boring stuff first.

I really think that advice to get your cruiser mechanicals 'right' before you do any mods is correct. And smart.

Tune the truck, fix all the delayed maintenance items,

But maybe you just wanna look cool with big tires, and are willing to put up with all the shortcomings.

M

Mike, I did not even mention the tune ups and all the other Preventative Maintenance beacuse that to me is a given, the most important thing to me about cruisers is their reliablilty, so I need all my cruisers in tip top shape....

As far as my cruiser or future cruisers being poser rigs (big tires blah blah blah comment......), take a look at my 80 series, far from poser rig (that s*** will cause some damage) ;) :

What are some of the downsides for a DD with 4.56's? More revs on the highway? Or would the difference in tire and gearing cancel themselves out so that it would drive the same?

I drove my HJ-60 with 4.56 and 33" and it was my DD for 3 years .. I'm so happy with this setup .. for sure, a lots more rpm on the HW and poor fuel performance .. but excelent power in all speeds ..

Robert -

Sorry if I came off as flippant. Nice trucks, both of them. My point is simply that, for me at least, the combination of 3FE, stock gears and anything 33" and larger is going to be a slug in the mountians. With a regear to 4:56, you get closer to a workable truck. But regear + larger tires = $$$ and uncertain possible result in driveability. That's why I suggested the 31" or 32" for use with stock gears.

im running 33s on my fj62 and love it. the truck is a dog on long uphill stretches but i dont think thats much different than stock anyway. btw stock 4.11s

tapage- with the 4.56s you get worse gas mileage?

Remeber I'm a diesel boy .. :D and I'm not really worried for the milleage, so maybe 28 - 32 km/g is a good number for these setup.

Also I never try to go over 120 km/h ( I love my cruisers, but sure aren't sports cars )

can I fit 33 x 12.50's on stock rims with a 2" lift?
They will fit on the stock rims. Might be hard to find a place to install them, as the stock rim is 6" wide, and 12.50's should be on 8" or wider rim. 2" lift may rub depending on the tire - some are bigger than others (even with the same "marked" size.)
