What the hell is the aftermarket world coming to?

I ordered 4 things from 4 different vendors on my last project...
they all were screwed up in one way or another..from mildly, to you gotta be fxxxing kidding me.

Marlin sent me a doubler plate, minus the turtle knob, & said they were out at the time of shipment, but one was on the way.....10 days later I called & it hadn't been sent..."I'll send it today" he said....11 days later & I still don't have it, I call & he says "I'll send one out today, still hasn't been sent.....not a big deal, but I paid for it & I want it.....

Inchworm sent me the r150 adapter plate....wrong seal, wrong hardware kit & no instructions..no biggie, I call & they are going to send me the right stuff
I go & buy the stuff I need cause I wanna put it together right away....$16.00 at the parts & hardware store...2 trips....whatever.....18 days later & I still haven't gotten the correct stuff from Inchworm, I call & he says "I have a note here that says give you free shipping on your next order, no parts sent".......what the fuzzy

Daystar says they have the parts in stock....7 days later I call to check status & its on 2 week back order...20 days from original order date & it arrives wrong..
they charge me 20% restock fee & I pay return shipping, for their mistake, & now they tell me I can only get "in house credit toward my next purchase"....no fxxxin way that scenario is finished bein played out......im bouts to get s***ty with them...they're gonna " see what they can do"
the response to my "why do i have to pay for your mistake " was "you can keep the parts, or pay the restock & shipping & get in house credit, your choice...."

Poly performance sent me 1 9/16" bump stops when I ordered 2 1/2" bump stops...they asked me if I was sure about the measurement & told me the same s***....pay the return shipping &get credit towards your next purchase

So again I ask....what the deuce !?
Does no one give a crap anymore??
sheeeeesh!

I dunno. I guess Id have to say a combo of things.

The Economy. Many suppliers are gone, so parts are scarce and must be sourced from new, unknown vendors.

NOBODY wants to be sitting on inventory now, cause there is zero stability in the market, so everyone is sitting on cash.

Some of those places may be working on skeleton crews.

Some may have a foot in the grave and may be figuring, fxxx it, im going to ride this bitch as long as I can.

Trail Gear has made it difficult to make a profit and provide good parts, or any kind of customer service. So people are cutting back on one of those, or just saying fxxx it and getting out. (Marlin is out of the suspension game!)

But on the bright side there are alot of smaller companies popping up and gaining traction with awesome customer service and innovation. Bobby Long, Ruffstuff, and a few guys bringing innovation to the market on their own....A new set of 80 series knuckles, custom swap kit for a 1uzfe in front of a toy stick, and lots of axle housing options now....

So maybe the companies we love are decaying in the natural order, or they are just trying to survive and ride this one out til they can return to using their profits to innovate, expand and provide customer service, rather than taking out loans to pay for all the overhead they accumulated during the good times.

Or its the honey badger's fault

I surely understand the no inventory thing...but tell me up front

I don't understand making me pay for their mistakes

If it takes a month to ship a turtle knob, im ok with that, just tell me

The wrong hardware, sure, it can happen...buy why say its on its way & then change it to free shipping on my next order & not shoot me an e- mail?

Im in the customer service business & that's what I deliver & expect
I know a lot of people don't give a s*** about customer service & it just plain sucks

Tell me " things suck around here & we'll do the best we can & at least I will know what to expect

The Inchworm stuff works...$16.00 extra is no biggie....I can live without the shift knob
Daystars bull**** is just that...bull****

I do realize most of the rantings above are over small stuff

I just think its not right
I couldn't have dual cases in my truck without those adapters
The Marlin kit is top knotch in every way
Inchworms craftsmanship also is top knotch
The small inconvenience from them is no biggie & I was just making a point

I guess im just disgusted with people not giving s*** and knowing I can't do anything about (at some places)

But, its whatever......I can bitch all I want....prolly wont change a thing

Is it to late to dispute the charges with your credit card for Daystar? Then I would start a thread flaming them all over the internet boards.

The first part might be worth the effort....MIGHT. The second part isnt, Daystar doesnt have to give a s*** about some e-flaming. Its like flaming wal-mart, only worse Daystar is one of, if not the only option in poly bushings. All the bushings I buy, no matter where I buy them, they came from daystar.

I would not bash them hard in a public forum....that's not right
Im just bitchin amongst friends
I believe in getting my justice from them, by dealing with them
Im sure the fine print somewhere states exactly how it is
I still don't think its right, but public bashing over frustration & $45.00 isn't right either

Just venting & sharing

Its all just an annoyance & it pegs my "grrrrrr " meter

It's a niche market for starters, which means you aint really got that much competition and like John said nobody is stocking s*** and scrapping for every penny. I understand that, but being a up front with a customer is going to help you out in both the short and long term.

I know a lot of stuff needs to be fabbed up before going out the door, thats fine but just be up front and say its gonna take a couple weeks and not a couple days. As far as the return freight and restocking charge on their mistake is just bull****, I deal with this kinda crap everyday at work - if we did that I would say my 60 year old company would be out of business by years end. However, we do have competition and most of the aftermarket for yotas - not that much,

On the bright side I got my new tie rod from F.R.O.R. today but UPS delivered it to the wrong house - so everybody fooks up.

This kind of s*** sets me off.
I think the key is to try and get the right person on the phone and somewhat keep your cool.....not easy for me when I know I have been fxxxed. But "calm" has got me further than "fxxx you". Although, sometimes "fxxx you" feels better.
And Tony, I don't care if the fxxxin is over $5 or $500, I would still make a point to try and get it corrected.

What do I know? Us web wheelers have the luxury of not having to deal with bushings and shift knobs.

I didnt realize that daystar was the only supplier of the polybushings. I guess if you are the only one in the game, customer service is NOT a focus.

Im sure they are not the only one. But they are big enough that you wont get Mr.Daystar on the board trying to put out fires, like you get Matt Messer defending TG. And it wont likely spark a web wide boycott of their product. Hell I just bought 24 bushings from them a couple weeks ago, and Ill do it again in 2 years.

Tony this is the reason it took me a month to rebuild my crawler, install a clutch and build a lefty tcase. Having to buy evreything from companies on the west coast sucks!!! I got awesome customer service from josh at inchworm, i order as much marlin stuff as i can from them actually. Marlin messes up my order evrey other time. I boogerd up the seal on their 30spline output kit, so i orderd a new one. Confirmed 4 times with the dude on the phone that its the seal for the 30 spline kit, he says yes. 5 days later guess what shows up a seal for a stock output. I was able to use it on the front, but thats 10 days right there to get me the right damn part!! Inchworm delayed my build because they updated their adpater design and will update adapters for you, long story short, i damaged the adpater removing it, they didnt tell me it was cracked, tried to fix it. When they did the hole was too low and wasnt coverd by my tranny, didnt notice it until my floor was coverd in gear lube. they took care of me, but that was another 10 days tacked on to the build. I try to plan for vendor screw ups, it has been going on since i started modding vehicles when i got a jeep 10 years ago. 1 out of evrey 5 orders screwed up is my average.

Tony if you want a marlin shift knob, i have one im not gonna use, its yours if you want it.

Sure, I'll take it if you're not wanting it
Might be raiser than getting one from the supplier

I know im not the only one out here with this problem
I just felt it was time to bitch a little, make myself feel better

I know calm over s***ty is the way to go
I have calmly been trying to get restitution for my issue & will continue until its resolved

Just needed to get it off my chest & guess what, you all were the lucky ones...

I appreciate hearing the input from others, whether its joining in, or helping me to understand why its going on
Sometimes a good bitch fest just makes me feel better

Everyone knows it has happened to me. PORC, Yukon, Midwest driveshaft, 4xinnovation, all pro, FROR, Marlin, ruffstuff, all to varying degrees, and some with happy endings, some without. Hell Marlin and Ruffstuff are prolly in my top 5 vendors (with Longfield!!)

That's why I cobble together all my own s***.

No s***!

I can do it faster, cheaper and better than the aftermarket, on my own....but only for fab work. I still need them for adapters, springs, etc.... :(

Yep, I love to fab what I can

Really love the adapters....Marlin & Inchworm make great stuff & I will buy from them again
Ruffstuff has been good to me.....

I still need new bump stops for the rear

I had a similar issue with marlin on my crawlbox i ordered several years ago. Several times was told it shipped only to find out a week later it had not. The entire time my truck was apart taking up space in a shop. Could easly have waited if they just would have told me the truth.

I ran into marlin a year later and ended up discussing the story with him He went out of his way to take care of me. Has given me his personal cell and taken care of anything I have asked of him. He was very upset to find out that the front office was behaving this way. He told me he didnt have total control of the office any more.

I would call and ask for him. He will take care of it. As he told me, He cant change things for the better unless he knows whats going on.

As a result of this thread....I was contacted by Brendan from M.C. & he is personally taking care of my turtle knob need...
I appreciate that he saw this & wanted to make sure I got my shift knob.....
I guess that just goes to show, some people really do care about their customers!

Thanks, Brendan & Marlin Crawler!
