Hello....just put a Old Man Emu Lift on my 07 FJ. I used the Heavy Duty Springs since I have a winch and a Bar. I and was wondering what is the biggest tire I can use with the stock wheels? Can I go bigger if I buy aftermarket wheels? What Size/offset?
Please let me know your thoughts..if you have been down this road
Thanks
Mark

The big concern with your wheels is going to be thier width and off-set. If you stay with a tire that's not too much wider then the stock tires, then you can use the stock wheel and go as tall as you can fit in the fenders. With the lift I don't see any reason why you couldn't run 33's, or even 35's if you don't mind doing a little triming. If you want a much wider tire, you'll need a different wheel with a differnt off-set that's wide enough to fit the tires on.

Runner Ryan has crammed 37" Krawlers under his rig with 3" of lift, however he did do quite a bit of trimming... IMO it was worth it, it looks badass. theres a thread showing how he did it if your dilligent enough to search for it... i'm too lazy... meh... btw, welcome to mud!

The bigger the tires the bigger the rocks the bigger the strain the bigger the breakage. I would check with your local 4X4 dealer regarding tire size and gearing before you sink a lot of $$$ into those new shoes.

Dpends on if you want it to "look" cool or to use it off road. If looks are the issue then go with 35's. If you want to use it fairly hard off road you can fir 34 Swampers or the 34" Nittos with no problem and still have plenty of room for the tires to "stuff" into the wheel well.

this is a good point. Runner Ryans rig may not have worked as well on a trail as a truck with 33" or 35"s but look at the pics and tell me it dont look sweeeeet.

How about 33" x 12.5 BFG Mud Terrains on black steel American Racing "wagon wheels"??? That's the set up I want to run on mine.

Those will fit without a problem especially if you're lifting it 3 inches. I have a stock suspension with 285/70 R17's stuffed in with just a pinky finger of clearance at full turn. The lift will give you the room you need and give you enough room to bounce around with them.

Thanks Phil I had been wondering about it for a while :D

YW! I was out with Woody and the FJ Trail teams this weekend and had a tire discussion. They run the 16in. TRD wheels with the 285's. (I do believe they're lifted as well) They have a ton of room in the wells for the tires. Since you're lifting, you'll have a ton more room than I do. I know a few other folks who have lifted and run 285's, any manufacturer, without issue. Since I'm not lifting yet, I might just trim the front body mount to make myself a bit happier with clearance.

Well, that's a nice thought, but with a 3" lift, running 285s on ProComp wheels, I rubbed like a mofo. Had to trim the body mounts. :crybaby:

I'll bet it's because the ProComp wheels don't have the correct off-set.

I speck you're right. But... it was cheaper to fix the body mount (free) than replace the wheels!

I just bought some new Pro Comp 7089s and getting them mounted up to new 285x70x17 Dick Cepek Mountaincats (muds) like I have now.

I hope to not rub, as they have 0 off set.

 i agree with the post that said skinnier tire on stock'ish wheel works best Our company fj uses 34" swampers on stock rims, 3.5" downey suspension lift, and never rubs in worst case ( boulder patches ).
