Im interested in knowing what low range gear sets, or new transfer case's all together are available for the 80.

What I want to do is install a 1HD-FT into an 80 with the R151 five speed behind it. Im wondering what optional transefer cases would fit that set up.

Also, is there a way to disable the full time four wheel drive function and put in front hubs? If for example a person put a Marlin 4.7 tcase behind that R151 transmission could you then add some front hubs and make the system part time?

Im just trying to figure things out in advance.

Im not anti the system in anyway, but I dont like the idea of putting power to all that running gear if you dont need to. I want four wheel drive when I need it, not when I dont. Freeing up the front end must save fuel.

Thanks in advance for the help.

There is a thread on this forum where Slee installed an underdrive off the back end of the T/C. It was 3:1 or so reduction. Might be more on his website too.

There is also a thread on 2W drive. I think there are some parts/kits available to do this mod. Not to be a jerk...but I suggest you do a search...

Enjoying the return of rainy NW weather?

Yes I like the rain, and we need the snow in the mtns.

There was a thread on this earlier. The results were, there are no options for upgrade the stock t-case, the gears are too small? Not enough demand to have someone design and machine new ones. Marks 4wd in Australia sells a 3:1 reduction box that mounts to t-case with some cutting and rerouting of wires. It is about 3000 bucks if I remember correctly.
