What spare parts to put in an emergency break-down kit?

Post ARB though I'd probably not bother as it virtually eliminates (not 100% but as good or better reliability that other potential problems on any rig) the risk/issue.

To add to that, after watching Spressomon, do an arb locked front axle dig with trailer in tow, I think you are pretty safe post arb install.:clap:

Either way. But the spare drive flanges are quicker and also prevent bearing contamination and subsequent replacement. Duct tape probably works but my preference after helping Rusty with this one would be to just have the spare drive flanges available. I agree, the only up side was I wanted to go through the front axle anyway. If your rig was current on PM's it would suck to have to replace everything.
 
2 spare tires, especially if you're running 2-ply AT tires.
 
no one has really answered you fully

no1: fuses, fuses and fuses.
my gadget friends blew my fuses by plugging in the 300W invertor into the clearly marked 150W only socket in the front.
then they plugged it into the cigarette lighter.

those two fuses were hard to find, but they were on the LH side kick panel. I am r/h drive here, but i am assuming they'd be either there, or on the other side. And these ones, both r'h and l/h side are smaller than the ones in the big fuse box under the bonnet / hood.

So you need to buy both types of fuses. And a lot of them.
To see the ones inside the car, you'll need to get up with a torch/flashlight .....you'll see where it is....took me ages.....the back of your head on the carpet, your eyes looking up and to the side (depends which side of the car) but towards the kickpanels........remove the kick panel...the fuse box is more towards the front of the car than you would think.

No2: Fire extinguisher.
Know where you are going. "Normal" ones should be ok. But yu might need fuel specific / environmetnal specific types. Here in Oz we have this grass called spinifex......apparently it's hard to put out and you need a specific type.... 4WDing, Camping & Caravanning around Australia @ ExplorOz Forums might help there.

No3: tyres/tires...depends where you're going

No4: water. water. water. Canned/tinned food. Depends where you are going.

No5: Warm clothes / sleeping bags. ditto.

No6: WD40, CRC, etc.

No7: A quality socket set, spanner set. You dont need a full blown deisel mechanics toolkit!!

No8: fan belts...other belts. You have a name...aah serpentine belts...Pantyhose has been used in outback Oz in emergencies! yes really.

Comment on the fire extinguisher:
If you use a powder type extinguisher on the car, you might save it. But the powder will over time (months-years) eat into things, e.g. insulation, and you will have gremlins in the car for ever. Those who experienced this say they would rather let the car burn down and let the insurance cover it, than having the insurance cover repairs, and then have problems for years afterwards.
Another thing is to stop a fire to save lives, of course.
CO2 is more car friendly, but doesn's work so well in open spaces, particularly if windy. Foam is fine, but bulkier, because you need more foam than powder to have the same effect.

You are correct, Sir! And in particular that Lew Horton .44 did good duty today as I stared down a black bear up near Stevens Pass, way up a Fire Road the LC had taken us. And all was resolved well as I didn't need to draw or fire, he skedaddled, and no blood was spilled until my lip was split as my horse head-butted me when I nuzzled him. But having a big-iron on your shoulder makes it all so much less stressful!:) Well, that and 300gr. Hornady's you know how to use! A 3" barreled gun that you can pack easily but can launch 300gr. rounds at supersonic speeds is just the ticket in bear country. We should get together some time.

On topic #1: moooooooo: thanks for bringing it back on track/topic and answering the question! In particular, the specific details about those fuses, and the extinguisher are well taken. I remember once shoveling handfuls of dirt on the cylinder head of a BMW 2002 while on the side of I-91 in downtown Harford, CT in 1988. Unpleasant, to say the least. Thanks for the reminder!

On (off?) topic #2: Rock climbing in the North Cascades sometimes requires more than lockers and large wheels. This was today, and I assure you it's way harder than it looks! (this is the other 1/2, not me; he and I had already scrambled through and set up for the photo). Now, it LOOKS like I exaggerated the angle, but I assure you, this is level. The tree in the upper corner is dead and off-angle, in case you get technical.

no problemo.

i only know about the fuses coz what happened to me. Bought the wrong ones as i mentioned there are two types. But now i have spares of both types. And yes fire extuingisher (speeling)...i actually dont have one, but need to investigate the ones for fuel fires and the spinifex grass as i am hopefully doing the Simpson Desert next year.

your gun laws are much more liberal than here - i'd say better, but some ppl might get upset!!!

my fave uncle had an awesome collection of different guns - pistols, revolvers, rifles, shotguns..etc..but quite a few years ago, after a massacre i think in Tasmania - the Oz Government banned certain types of guns and had an amnesty to hand in newly outlawed guns and get a "proper market price" for the guns.

when i was skinny 16 yo, many moons ago, i had the pleasure of going to the pistol club with this uncle and shooting a gun for the first time. The first one was a Ruger .357 magnum revolver with factory loads....nearly knocked me off my feet with the recoil! haha...the movies dont show the real recoils!

next was a S&W 9mm ...i was allowed six shots with that and minimal recoil and i hit the target 5 of the six....and only one or two were consdered to have been on the mark.

Oh and he had some rifle he imported from England....it was so powerful that he'd only used it on his farm about 5 times coz he was worried about richochets and his bulls and cows.

Most were handed in. He had one though, that he wished he had watched get crushed (that was an option if you wanted) as he said t was easily converted into a fully automatic (almost) machine gun. There were rumours that the Police didnt always crush all of the guns....

anyway, buy fuses!
