I am restoring a 72 FJ40 and plan on running the stock 40 rims 15x5.5 or 6 (I think).

Does anybody have a good tire size that still looks aggressive but will fit on the skinny steel wheels.

I am thinking of a 32/11.5 R15LT but would like a slightly larger tire but I am not sure how wide you can go with the stock rims.

Any help would be great and if you have a picture of what your recomendation looks like that would be great!

Thanks!

Mounting a tire wider than 9.5 inches will result in them ballooning up in the center of the tire.....

I have 31 10.50 15 on OEM wheels on my 71 fj. They look good, but I wouldnt go any wider myself , on these wheels, because they will ballon on the sides.:grinpimp:

no ballooning - 34 x 9.5 x 50 15's TSL's - not factory shoes, but on the factory hardware. EDIT: although just recently bought a set of BFG MTs 33 x 10.5 x 50 15's that worked well too. I like them personally tall and skinny and, if memory serves correctly, bfg makes the tallest and skinniest tire available (minus swampers) in anything over 31".

no issues when I ran 33x10.5
