What separates LX from GX? Why get LX? (1 Viewer)

So the argument for the GX making the Lx inappropriately redundant could have been (and was) made with the Gx460 and LX570. Half the cost, same three rows of seats (maybe an inch more room for cargo behind the LX570 with the third row occupied).

But there was simply no comparison. The ride, comfort, and prestige of the LX570 far surpassed that of the Gx460.

I suspect it may be similar for the next GX. I'll predict a bit less noise deadening, not as soft a ride, and a slightly less high quality interior with the GX550 compared with the Lx.

That being said, I'm watching the GX and upcoming landcruiser closely. High possibility of trading in the LX600 on one or the other.
Agree. From what everyone who has seen the new 2024 GX550 has said, and photo'd, the interior is nice but not on the same level as the LX. Not as posh, will be a bit less insulated, and less attention to specific details.

While they may be similar sized, there will remain differences in the weight, the refinement, the AHC, and overall "feel" between a GX and LX. But we'll see how it goes. Have a 2023 LX600 F Sport now and a 2023 IS500, and got on the list for a GX, in case I want to downsize/go cheaper next year.

On that note...GX is exactly that. "Downsize a tad and go cheaper, less fancy." Same will continue.

The GX will outsell the LX by a large margin just as it did in the 150 vs. 200 era and rightfully so given the price point and size differences. I had zero interest in the LX600 after a lengthy test drive and I am still pissed that they didn't bring the 300 Series Cruiser over. I'll have to wait and see an Over Trail 550 or whatever the new Prado LC is like in person before I decide if there will be another Toyota or Lexus purchase for our household in the next few years.

Globally though I think the LX 570 outsold the GX 460.
Even now the LX 600 outsells the current GX 460 ( if you count total global sales ).
The current GX 460 sales in the Middle East for example are abysmal to say the least and they aren't going to sell the GX 550 here because the current outdated GX 460 is more expensive than some LC300 variants in the Middle East, so for sure the GX 550 won't be cheaper than that, which means it won't sell as well here because we can get lower spec LC300s for cheaper and most will choose that instead.
We will still be getting the Prado though which is your 2024 US LC pretty much.

US sales of course the GX is going to be better.

I remember seeing the figures a while back and will try and post them if I ever find them ( global sales )

That might change now though because the GX is going to attract lots of people with the new body style, so the new increased sales in the US and introduction in some other markets may give it the advantage and take it above LX sales.

Yea my reply was more in regards to US sales.

I spent a lot of time around the GX 550 and the LX600 @ExpoPNW the 550 size is about right, definitely not a luxury vehicle in the Overtrail spec but that was a preproduction vehicle. I thought I would be done when I bought and built my GX 460. The 550 is a much beefier vehicle, no comparison to the 460. If the twin turbo proves to be as reliable as the Lexus V8s I will be in on a 2025 or 2026 model year.

I don’t have much faith in the long term reliability. It’s a s*** show on the tundra forums.

That is very disappointing, could be potentially misleading but we'll see

I am hearing alot of failure of the twin 6 in the gcc too BTW. Sometimes I'm greatful I got the base 1gr engine until they get things sorted.

Given that the 300, the GX, Sequoia, and Tundra all use the motor... Toyota *WILL* figure it out. However, I am not interested in dealing with repairs like that. Probably best to wait it out for a year or two before even considering it. Look at the repairs... it's a body off the frame repair every time. Toyota is only authorizing short-block swaps in most situations too.
