I guess when my computer seemed like it was locked up it actually posted this thread(so I have 2 threads) when I thought it didn't. I'm asking about the part in the center with the red on top and also the part down and to the left that also has 2 vacuum hoses on it....what are these parts and what do they do? I want to replace them but I don't know what to ask for at the parts store so I can buy new one's.

It's part of the EGR system. Not sure which specific part, but it controls the vacuum that operates the valve. And why do you want to replace it?

I was going to replace this on the egr system because all of the EGR ports on it are horrible looking...but everone says just to disconnect it because you really don't need it.

EGR parts for sure. It's the vacum part that opens and closes the EGR valve.

It's the VSV, or vacuum switching valve. I believe it controls how much EG flows through the EGR valve. C-Dan would have a more positive answer. If you disconnect it, you will need to plug the hoses. Otherwise you can get some other tubing and just bypass the valve. Leaving those hoses disconnected could have a negative impact on how well you're engine idles.
