What OEM wheels fit a FJ80 -

Like ones from a FJ100, 4Runner etc.

Looking for a new set of wheels/tires for my lc, wanted to see if there are any options.

Thanks
john

17" wheels off a tundras and 4 runners fit with a spacer. Kind of narrows down your tire choices a good bit though.

I guess this includes sequoias as well? There are oem take offs on ebay for around $700 - where could I get the correct spacer, and what type do I need?

Thanks!
John

i know numerous other have used them and i am thinking about doing the same. I think the spacer is 1.5 inch but I would search just to make sure. I know many in here have those wheels ( I think Clownmidget has them)

John,
100 Series wheels are 5 bolt.

Eagle Alloy 589s 16x8 and 16x10 fit without spacers and will widen you up a little. Basically any 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern aftermarket wheel will fit provided the backspacing is correct. 4Runner wheels are popular but I think they are a move in the wrong direction. They move the wheel in and not out. 17" wheels are more likely to have too much backspacing. Most 16" are OK. 15"s except on 91/92s seem to be a PITA. There are some people that make a big deal about the hubcentric vs. lugcentric. I've found that my aftermarket wheels on my 91 balance and ride better than the factory wheels did. Better than the factory wheels on my 94 too.

John,
I think much of this depends on what you'll be doing with the truck, what tires and size you'll likely have mounted on them, how much lift if any is on the truck, etc. If you're driving an older truck that had 15" wheels those came on both the LC and 4Runner and are super cheap now that most people prefer 16" or greater. I have seen these on eBay for between $100-200 for all four. For a complete set of alloys that's hard to beat.

For 16" I would have preferred the OEM alloys that came with the LC or a set from the Lexus LX450. Now it seems that enough folks have "discovered" those that they are uncommon or pricey. But check here ( http://www.lcool.org/sale/forsale_int.html ). Other choices are the 4Runner/Tacoma/Sequoia/T-100 that had 16". Again, the steel ones are super cheap, regularly $100 for all 4. Alloys aren't bad either and still under $400 for the set.

The 17" that came on the Tundra/Sequoia is what I ended up getting after seeing them on Kumar's truck. Patience pays off and searching places other than eBay. Try craigslist if there's one local as well as other web listservs. I got the set of 4 for $350 by a motivated seller that had paid thousands for some crazy set of 22" and needed to get cash quick. If your truck is stock then the oem tires that come with them are a pretty good match too if it will just see pavement. Otherwise, the 17's do have a more limited range of easily found tire sizes. I know that the 285/75R17 was really uncommon but would be really good on a modestly lifted truck. I went with the 17's because of the glut of 315/70R17 BFG ATs from H2's moving on to the bling-bling. I also know that Bjowett found the oem spare 17" wheels from the Tundra/Sequoia and it was really cool looking plain black painted steel that looked retro. A set of those might be able to be sourced from a junkyard one at a time cheaply.

Last thing was wheel spacers. I would almost do that last after you got the wheels and actually mount them and determine what is best. I have 1.5" spacers but that was due to how readily available they are from the mini-truck folks. I know Marlin, All-Pro and a lot of others have them and on pirate had them discounted to about their cost. 1" might actually have been better with my setup but that's why I'd say wait and measure. They have both sizes in stock so it's not like you can't get them quickly. Hope this helps.

I got mickey thompson classic lock in 16x8 with 4" offset on my 91 fj80 and love them, they pushed the 285/75's almost flush with the fenders looks much better IMO.

Could you post a pic, preferably a front or rear shot? I am probably going to buy 5 MT Classic IIs in the Spring and have been wondering how they would look. My concern is rubbing due to the additional 1 inch of backspacing - have you seen any signs of contact on the sidewalls? Any funny noises at full stuff?

I have a 96 LX with 3 inches of lift and 285/75R16 MTRs.

I will try to get a pic up...and I have the ome 2.5 lift and have had them full stuff without any rubbing what so ever.

I run an 04 4Runner wheel that is 17x7 with 315/70R17s, with a spacer. The PO put them on and the fit perfect. The look great, but not my taste. They are coming off tomorrow, and going on eBay. Wheels only. Tires I am keeping.

thanks for all the info - this is a great board! will post pics of the end result if i go with something interesting...

Strap: Thanks for the pics. I am looking forward to a closeup if you get around to posting it. More questions:

Did you notice any handling change or increase in lateral stability with the 2 inch wider track? Where did you get your wheels and what was the price?
