Wow, thats alot of wasted $. I could have saved you $750 on just rims and tires. And another $750 on the winch. I mean if you got it and want to spend it good for ya. I will be the one buying it from the other people like that who end up selling it cheap. :)

I think the $8K budget was just an imaginary figure. And didnt have to be stuck to. Although, I think I could get mine where I wanted it or close to it for $8K. (I have approx $4k in it now.)

No, I was saying $8k seems like a really reasonable budget. I mean over a couple of years playing and getting a rig right and all.

As far as the wheels and tires go that was the exact price I paid mounted balanced and shipped. Those were the tires I wanted so it wasn't much of a worry on those. As far as a winch goes that will probably be a little down the road, gotta get it SOA'd first : ) I have no clue what some of my ideas cost so I just threw out numbers that I figured with my experiences.

Any help on the winch prices I'm all open for : )

I was just comenting on the $ figures. I tend to shop around and find stuff that is used if at all possible. (Especially if you dont have to have it now.) I am going to look at a 9K # warn winch in the next few weeks for $500. Guy bought it and used it 3 times. Then sold the truck and its been in his garage since. (So he says, I know the guy so I think is should be lagit. I have known about it for over a year, just wasnt in the position to need it, much less buy it. I called him last week and he said he still has it.

I just hope I can get him down to $400 :)

ON tires and rims, I got my set for $255 mounted and ballanced. $160 shipped for rims off ebay, then $75 for tires locally, then $20 to mount at a local shop.
Deals are out there, you just have to sit and get them when you can. I even did the same thing on my lift.

"Good desiel and 5-6 spead tranny swap $2000-4000"

Good luck on this! Even if you got most of your engine and tranny for free, you would go over this on small parts and adaptors alone.

Change of subject: My 60 is almost my ideal 60. It is SOA, with 33X10.50's on stock chrome rims. Roof rack, custom swing away spare tire carrier, ARB bull bar, Warn winch, full float rear, etc.
It also has a Cummins 4BT and NV4500 mated to the stock T-case.
The only things that I would add, would be a selectable rear locker and a WVO conversion. Both of these I plan on doing in the near future. Oh, maybe a slide out drawer system.
I set my rig up for expedition use and not for heavy duty wheelin'. That's the way I like it.

to drive it more than one or two days without having to fix something...everytime I think I am close some other iussue pops up...see my threads for further...I actually have my truck set up almost the way I want it...just got to work outthe last few bugs...

TBI 350......700r4....203doubler to split case....SOA .....arbs front/rear....4wheel disk brakes....onboard air.....shower...

there is no spending limit,

Oh, that changes things!

How about a diesel Cruiser, ANY Diesel Cruiser! With SOA, H55, ToyBox, Saab or Supra seats, Custom Bumpers and a set of 2badfjs Sliders.:grinpimp:

My dream rig = my FJ62 with the following:

Manual door locks/windows/mirrors (I have the parts).

Nice suspension with 33s or 35s.

Chevy 350 TBI and 700R4 (manual valve body and Lokar shifter).

ARB locker.

FJ60 headlights (maybe).

The one I'm building now. So far:

1) 3B diesel, overhauled, turbo'd, intercooled. Thinking about porting and polishing (Done)

2) 5 Speed, split case, rebuilt (done)

3) Frame off rebuild. Frame acid dipped, galvanized and power coated. (About to be done this weekend)

4) trying to find a place that can dip the entire body. (Still looking)

5) OME, Alcan or Parabolic suspension. (Haven't decided yet. Jury is still out on parabolics. looking for 3 inches of lift.)

6) 33" or 35" tires. Prolly BFG MT KOs (Waiting till it's back together)

7) ARB air lockers front and rear (coming soon)

8) Rear FF axle. (Done) Not sure on the gears I'm gonna use yet. Front axle will have newfields, and I'm considering the ackerman steering kit from 4x4 labs.

9) on board air that runs off the engine. (Have the York compressor already, off an old Mustang, will get a bracket fabbed up to try and get it on the 3B. Will be losing the AC. Still trying to figure out where to stick the air tank and plumbing for it)

10) Thinking about an underhood welding solution.

11) Sliders, probably slee.

12) ARB winch bar up front, 4x4labs bumper in the rear, with plenty of armor.

13) Aux fuel tank. (Done)

14) snorkel

15) all interior metal coated with Rhinoliner. (waiting to do. Once I decide how to treat the body, acid dipping and coating or whatever I do)

16) Sliding rear windows (Done)

17) Seats custom upholstered in a water repellant fabric. (that's the wife's contribution to the project)

18) Rack, havent decided yet.

19) GPS, radios and all the other little electronic goodies... (I bought a nice CB and a vehicle mounted trunk tracking scanner. Looking for a good GPS solution that I can get for cheap, then gotta figure out where all the electronics will go. Either in a waterproof console like a tuffy, or high up on the ceiling)

20) Painless heavy duty waterproof wiring harness (Have purchased, waiting for the body to be done so it, the frame and engine to come together at last)

So many things on the list.... I just kind of make it up as I go really, but that's something what it'll look like when it's done, provided it ever is.

Hehe. Imagination is better than pics! Just imagine a pile of parts that used to be a rusted out FJ60 sitting on the floor of a shop, and you'll see what it looks like!

Seriously though, I'll see what I can do. I'm going to be doing a major bodywork session soon, and will make sure to document it.

I like the welder idea. I like all the ideas. This is like Cruiser porn.

I don't get wanting to go from power doors/windows/mirrors to manual. Is that a reliability thing? I do prefer the 60 headlights just for aesthetics.

One thing I haven't seen so far is a tracking system. I'm trying to find one for my trip down south. I'm putting so much work into this truck that if it ever gets stolen I would like the piece of mind to know that I could find it. I might go with this makeshift tracking system but use a satellite phone instead of a cell phone:

My truck is going to be half Mad Max, half James Bond by the time I'm done.

Center-mounted winch with line to front and rear running synthetic line

I am intrigued by this proposal. Tell me more.

Sounds awesome, but I think a practical execution would be nearly impossible. I can't see a place where the line wouldn't interfere with the drivetrain/steering, and a bottom-mounted winch would take a beating. Finally, imagine being stuck in deep goo, spinning all four, how do you retrieve the winch line from under the truck?

I think a front mounted "main" winch and a rear mounted auxiliary (for a 60 series, and taking into account our *dream 60 theme*, I would do an M15000 in the front and a rear mounted 8,000 lb. Warn horizontal mounted installed in a custom rear crossmember/bumper. You could always double-line the rear winch for safety?

My desire to make everything manual is not for reliability. It satisfies my desire for something simple and purposeful.

My desire for simplicity only goes so far, though. I love fuel injection and automatic trannies:)

I want to convert my '88 62 to a 3B Diesel and 5 speed gearbox. I bought my almost rust free 62 for $2500 on this board and still can't believe nobody else bought it before me :)

Hey Herbert it's Dallas. I can't believe it either!:D

$$$$$$$$$$$ Fj60
