I unfortunately found out what this is after smoking a deer at 80 mph on the interstate. If you take out the key of your key FOB you can put it in here to release the shifter (like when you have to have it put on a flatbed because the whole front end is gone and it won't start).

Thanks. Thought it might be some kind of shift release but had hoped it was a smoke screen/oil slick anti pursuit system activation button. Ejection seat would have been cool too. Seemed like it might be missing a cover but I'm not sure it ever had one.

There is a small cover. Also it has to be oriented the correct direction or it won’t sit flat.

33554-60160 should be it.
