are there any special tricks or hints or techniques to installing the rear main seal on a 1985 2F?

are you supposed to use any special installation tool? I have heard that some vehicles use a cup shaped tool to help you install it squarely and properly.

I just tapped mine in SLOWLY. A littlle on one side, then the other sort of like the way you tighten the bolts on a clutch cover.
Some people have had problems with them getting cut, but so far (crossing my fingers) its been OK.
Do a search on Rear Main Seal and you'll see some tricks people have used successfully.
Good luck

I always lube mine up real good before I install it. I use a MP grease. Just becareful not to use to much or it will not let you seat the seal properly.

if its the same as the rear seal in 2H .Take note of the seal position.
Pull the thin spring out of the seal. Then run a sharp stanley knife [box cutter] around here carefully. The seal will pull out very easily now. Clean the area where the seal is located and remove any burrs with fine wet and dry.Smear some mp grease over the running surfaces and push in taking care not to damage any lips on the seal. Then tap into position using a hammer and block of soft wood. Square up in correct position using the outer piece off the old seal.
