i want to set up my ipad as a on board performance monitor. I was curious who has done this and what apps work best for like trans temp and other stats in realtime ?

I could never get trans temp to work on the iPad. ODB Fusion

Let me know what you find out.

alright well thanks to the beauty of prime we will know Saturday haha it looks like amazon has some random "cord" non blue tooth options for cheap and then itunes rates obd auto doctor rates really well

Update: received the BlueDriver unit.

Seamlessly connected with my iphone 7 and am able to read and clear codes and read realtime data (no trans data on my 2001) without a problem. Next test is to see how it interface with the Techstream stuff on my Mac. More later!

what data does it read realtime ? tach ? engine temp ? fuel mileage info ?

Still playing with it. I only tried the Blue Reader app for base functionality.

Someone had reported having good luck with this Amazon product ASIN B07JFRFJG6 on his iPhone for reading AHC pressure and other on board system info. Don't know what else it can access.

So it looks like to get info like trans temp and other non generic data stream, one needs either the more expensive readers (BlueDriver, Scangauge, etc, 100-150$) or an application add-on (OBD Fusion add on is $80), does that summarize it?
