What head units/deck do you guys have in your 80?

You could also go to two single DIN units. I put in a Clarion VS715 DVD with a Clarion DXZ835 which has the auxillary input. A bit of a squeeze with all the wiring crammed into a 92. Especially with three sets of PG RCA cables.

I think I'm going for the Alpine head unit. The kenwood I was looking at is refurbished and I'd rather have a brand new one. After the deck I'm looking to put in speakesr..I'm thinking pioneer front and back, anyone run these speakers?

I have done a lot of research in car audio and talked to a lot of expirienced audiofiles, and from what I have come up with the above is true. Most head units today all give about the same sound quality(for a non audiophile like most of us). External amps and quality but necessarily expensive speakers will do the most for you.

I preamped my stock 97 radio by removing the crappy Matsushita/Panasonic amp section and running RCAs right out the back of the radio. The signal then runs into a Phoenix Gold preamp/xover/eq, and then on to a single 4 channel amp. Speakers have been changed out of course, and the result is an amazing sounding system with a stock look. Most high end shops have a tech that should know how to do the preamp out for you if you are not up to the task. The add on, after the radio/amp, line out converters, are OK but you still have to deal with the high distortion rate of the factory radios' amp section. To do it again, if I wanted to spend the $, I would buy the Kenwood double din, nav/dvd, touch screen.

After reading this thread I am inspired to put a new deck, amp, and sub into my truck. But I want to run thicker gauge wires than the stock ones.

Does someone have a wiring diagram for a '97 LX450? The FSM does not cover it and I here it is slightly different in the LX450's.

Thanks,

You won't find Nakamichi at any large chain, I don't think.

They're available in more specialized shops, or you can get them online at places like www.onlinecarstereo.com.

The six disc in-dash changer in the LX470 is Nakamichi, and man.... it is NICE.

Has anyone ordered from onlinecarstero.com I'm looking to buy my deck from them but I don't know anything about their repuation.

Finally got around to installing last weekend. Wow! The previous upgrade of speakers (alpine in front and eclipse in rear) with the factory head unit was a nice improvement. However, with this new head unit it is amazing.

I don't even know that I'll mess with a sub. This thing will rattle the truck the way it is.

Eclipse 9805.
Toyota Camry sotrage slot on bottom.

Not all fitment is complete, but you get the idea.

I have seen alot of talk about Nakamichi on here. All I am gonna say is they do make nice stuff HOWEVER alot of their single din disk changers are prone to breaking, and you can get something just as good if not better for the money. I think their quality has gone down over the last few years, all I hear about them now is in the form of a complaint. I used to be pretty big into car audio, I never competed, but I did a ton of research before building the system in my Tacoma. I was running MB Quart components, Kicker Solo Baric subs, Xtant amps, and a Alpine headunit.

I have had Sony, Eclipse (Fujitsu Ten), and Alpine CD players. I am pretty much sold on Alpine now. I do like that new kenwood double din LCD that is out, it's too rich for my blood though and I am not really sure how good their quality is.
