Looking at different head units and this site popped up with an aftermarket imobolizer bypass "black box" as being 2000 LX470 compatible.

I believe it is used with a remote start mechanism and does not require a key to be present. I am under the impression most OEM remote starts kill the engine upon opening a door, etc. Some action to prevent theft of a running but unattended vehicle.

Is this something different? I'm wondering is I somehow disabled the steering wheel lock could I then use this system to operate like a newer vehicle with pushbutton type start?

I believe it is for remote starts. Old remote starts required you to permanently leave a key in the box in the car to trigger the immobilizer to start the car.

The newer ones use a module like this with their own unique ID code to bypass the immobilizer to start the car without having to leave a key in the car.

all the toyota (ours) immobilizer does is cut the power to the fuel injection as any of who have rewired or wired in new relays when we had the,,,,,, will not start relay problem... know you can bypass it with one jumper in the fuse box
