What does "Rear off" refer to?

When I press the Display button next to the Nav screen, there's a green highlighted "Rear off" button displayed. Pressing it only makes the letters turn from grey to white or back. Nothing else seems to happen.

Any idea what this is supposed to do? Is it there if you have the model with the reverse camera fitted?

I think it disables the rear view backup camera.

Sorry, I should have mentioned I have the rear camera and it doesn't effect the operation of it. Every time you put it in reverse, the cam comes on. Once in reverse, you can hit another screen to get rid of it.

I truly think it's for the rear equipped DVD screen.

Nope, I have the Toyota RES and it's unaffected by that.

OK, I have a small audio control on the back of the middle console. It turns that off. Do you have that? Anyway, I noticed that if the "rear off' button is green on the display then it's off in the rear. Otherwise it 's off in the rear.

So, how does RES work going down the road? How do you turn it off if needed?

Are you referring to the Rear Audio controls that are behind the middle console? I do have that. Are you saying that the REAR OFF turns the rear audio on or off? Hmmm, Never did test that.

As for the RES, it's controlled by it's own remote. There aren't any controls (in the front) that can turn the system on/off aside front aside from opening or closing the screen.

Are you referring to the circled part?

Ah - it turns the kids audio off ?! Will give it a go tomorrow - thanks.

Weird control! But there again, this is the only element of our vehicle that we have found absolutely zero need for - even with 4 kids. Oh well.

And why, I wonder, have it on the "display" screen instead of on the "audio" screen?

Sword

ps - Goh, it looks like you have a drawer under your rear audio? I have a fold down cup holder ...

Gohawks63- That's it. I actually had to turn it on in back first to figure it out.

Gosh, is that what my cruiser is going to look like when I have a kid:eek:

:o

Yep, although the car seats are now gone. I just have hockey bags both permenantly stored in the back. Both my boys are travel hockey goalies and the 'Cruiser is always loaded up.

Go figure, I finally figured out what that REAR OFF control was for, I could never figure it out.

Hey Sword, as for using it, we've never used it either. The kids are either watching a movie or listening to their IPods.
