Is that a US version 45? It doesn't appear to have a FF rear axel and the front hubs are direct... Is that normal for a US model?

Yep, FF's are abnormal for US verstions

On the front axle: those are drive flanges. Lockout hubs were a dealer or owner installed option until the aisin hubs came out in 1975(date?).
Drive flanges are nice to keep in the glovebox if you wheel much, they can replace a blown hub
