Hi everyone,
I want a GPS system within the next two weeks for some summer road trips. My uncle has a $150.00 Tom Tom that has been excellent. He is not tech savy at all, and he loves the thing. Well Costco has the Tom Tom XL 330S for a good price $199.00, after a $50.00 rebate. HAs anyone used this GPS? Do you like it? I can't seem to find out if it does traffic updates, anyone know? Are the traffic updates worth it? I don't want to spend much over $200.00, so this one seems to fit the bill.

Anyone?

Thanks,
Zack

this is a vague answer to your question since I don't have any experience with the TT units but things I looked for before picking a Nuvi 350:

-when I want to find a restaurant, I like Garmin's way of categorizing: Chineese, Indian, Italian, etc. TT just tells the name of the restaurant and hopefully you can make out the type of cuisine from that.

-Text to speech - I like to be told "turn right on Main street" vs "turn right on next street"

-easy volume and brightness access. Don't want to go through several layers of menu to get to them.

-non proprietary battery charger. Nuvi 350 has a proprietary cig lighter charger connection AND a mini USB data connection that can also charge the unit and transfer data.

HTH.

Garmin nuvi 200

The Nuvi 200 is map deficient(thats why it cheaper). It won't have other areas such as Canada. I live in Canada and it only had the nothern US states in our version. So I took it back.

I bought a Tom tom one 3rd gen. Works fine. I can't see the screen needing to be bigger. So I doubt the xl is worth it. If it has the traffic feature and you commute and need that fine.

One think the 3rd gen one doesn't have is street names said, like "turn on Elm street" . Where as mine says.. "turn right in 1/4 mile etc".

I also like the tom tom cause it is Mac friendly. The software to update is available in both systems.
