I have seen that truck around. It would be a good wheeler and you would be amazed at how much better it will handle from your landcruiser. (Not that it handles bad) The only thing I don't like about it is that it has a Dana 44 front, but as long as you're not hard on the skinny pedal, it would work fine.

I would trade for it. But I am more into good wheelers than nostalgia.

I am thinking bout it. I love my Cruiser, but it isn't very practical in my life. I do need something that I cna throw a bunch of gear into and go camping without having to have a trailer. I am considering the trade.

ONly issue is smogging. That would be part of the deal, he needs to smog it first.

That is what I am thinking, but I could slap an FJ60 axle or mint truck axle under there and be ahead of the game. It is not worth that price. Maybe a 5, 000 rig. I would say mine has more value.
It would need 37s in the future.

You have to determine what you think it is worth if you had to build it from scratch. I wouldn't worry too much about the Dana 44 until it breaks. I wouldn't put an FJ60 axle or mini truck if I was going to go to the hassle of changing it. It already is set up for full widths in the front, so if you change go 60 in front and 70 or 14 in rear.

If you look at that truck in a practical mind, there is nothing on your FJ40 drivetrain wise that is better than that truck. However, the FJ40 has more value from a nostalgic standpoint.

If I found a rig for 2500, throw on another t-case, full widths, and tires/lockers, I am looking at about 6 grand. but that is for an early 80s rig that is alread solid axle. Doing a 90 rig soid axle is more.

I need to seriously think about this. The whole smog issue is a major draw back and 39s bias ply would need to be traded out. SHouldn't be too hard to find some 37s for a 17" rim for trade.

Smog really isn't and issue with these things. Also, I have 36" bias plys and they ride fine down the road and they aren't even balanced for perspective.

Thanks for the lead! :D

You know I'd rather have a Cruiser.

Slickrock...my truck sat for a year and a half, hasn't had a tune up in 3 and after it was running passed it's smog test with no problems...so if he is driving this now I wouldn't sweat passing smog. I agree with Chad and Cacy that this truck is overpriced. If it wasn't for the wheels and tires it wouldn't be worth more than like 5 grand. Short of what it will do on the trail your truck is much cooler than that one and as long as you don't chop up the body will be much more valuable down the road. If you want a bigger truck try and trade for this one...

I think he does have an overly high belief in the value of his rig. He is about 3000 too high. This would not be an equal trade for me as I think honestly I am in the 6500-7500 catagory with my rig.

I do love my rig...

I am hearing that this would not be a good trade for an all around wheeler for me and my 40 is cooler. If I wanted a more hardcore wheeler, go with the trade.

The 80 is really cool too!,Bill remind me to hire you as a headhunter if I ever look for anything else.....

Anytime...although I wish I didn't have all this free time. :bang:

I think I am goign to pass on the trde. The more rigs I look at in the price range he is trying to sell at are above and beyond his rig. I think a fair price for his rig (body dmage/no work to bed) is around 5,000. If I was to put mine up on the market, I would start selling between 7,000 and 8,000 and go down from there if needed.

I will wait till I find something I jus can't live without or continue to love my 40. Thanks for the words of advice fellas.

I might jsut email that extra cab in Oroville. THat is cool.
