What do you guys think about this deal?...

Looks like it's had lots of dealer maintenance. I think the '04 has advantages over the '06 (no AHC), no VVTi (regular gas), etc. Check for rust as this has been a NY car for most of it's life.

So would you say the 04 would be a better option than the 06 because of less wear and tear items?

Any differences with any interior changes or exterior (other than the rear wind deflector).

We all think (logically) that the longer a car is a dealership, the more likely they are to bargain. But Consumer Reports has stated for years that the longer a dealer holds a car the more money he has in it- so the longer it's there may mean in some cases less room for negotiation. Dealers also know a cars true value. Why private sellers end up cheaper. Ideally, the best time to get one from a dealer is before it's listed. This requires either buddies at dealerships, or an eagle eye on dealership storage lots. A quick turnover from a recent trade-in before a dealer has done anything with it is the path to the best bargain.

I actually found one this way in my search. I saw it on the net the day it was posted, went to the dealer and it still had the "Not Ready For Sale" sticker on it. Not the best example- actually kind of crappy- so I passed.

If the '04 and '06 are of equal condition, maintenance, and mileage, then yes I'd go for the '04 to save $$$ plus avoid the AHC, secondary air injection system, and premium fuel. No difference on the interior. Exterior on the '06 got LED tails and updated front end plus gunmetal wheels (all of which I like).

take your time and get the RIGHT truck..... if you have questions walk.... there are lots out there unless you need a rig immed.

Rust free trucks would be top of my list if I was looking again... its worth flying in to buy the right truck- several on CL in Houston right now that look to be a far better deal then this....

Could not agree more about exercising patience. That said, provided maintenance is reasonably up to date, I would in no way be dissuaded by AHC.
Since switching to living full time in E. Tennessee, I have had occasion to go off the pavement a pretty decent bit and could not be happier with AHC.
This on a 15 year old truck.

With AHC/Skyhook being offered on Land Cruisers from 1998 onwards in other markets, AHC was subject to pretty rigorous testing during the development of the 100 Series. Moreover, worst case, the option to switch to the conventional setup is always there.

I checked out the 04 this morning. It is in better overall condition than the 06. The price they offered is 19k. That includes all maintenance up to date including the timing belt and water pump.

Like I said I know the head salesman in the dealership so I figured I could get a better through him. I would still be getting a presale inspection to check for any issues or rust that I wasn't able to see from my personal inspection.

Thoughts?...

if the rust isnt that bad, and you are gonna see salt anyway, what is the big deal? You can always manage the rust if it isnt too far gone already.
