What do you use to wax your FJC and what do you clean your plastic with?

Waxed the FJC for the first time today. Plain old carnuba wax. Any better suggestions as to wax and also, what do you use on the plastic?

I use Griot's Best Of Show wax after I power clay the rig.
Both are used with a Porter Cable random orbital sander.
Been using that system for many years.
Can not burn your paint with it, and it leaves no swirls marks.

Here is a page I put together several years ago.
http://pnw4runners.com/tando/wax/wax.htm

On the interior I am now using Griot's Interior Cleaner instead of the Tuff Stuff spray I mention on my detail page.
Good stuff, no shiny crap residue like Armorall would leave.

For the outside plastic I use use the same carwash soap as for the paint, Griot's carwash.
Their homie is www.griotsgarage.com

I have washed the rig about 4 times since I bought it, and the last 3 times was with the Griot's carwash soap.

I have been washing, waxing, detaling rigs since the late 60s, and the Griot's stuff is the best stuff I have ever come across.

And here is a tip:
If you get wax residue on the plastic and it shows on it, use peanut butter to get the wax residue off.
Be aware this might attract critters though, and they might start tounging your rig.

P-nut butter...that's interesting.:)

:D I think I'll try the creamy first.:D

I use Just Once to clean the plastic. It cleans and doesn't leave an oily residue like Armor All. For wax I use Zymol. For washing I use Meguiar's Classic car wash. For scratch removal after a trail run I use 3M Finesse-It polish and a high-speed buffer with a foam pad. That reminds me, I need to clean up the scratches from the last run. ;)

I think my scratches are too far gone.:frown:

Ya. That one is a bit worse. The pic I posted was from May. I have since added a passenger rear door dent, and the rocker is done in on the passenger side, too. The truck is just too fat.
I really gotta stop taking it out, and start wheeling my 5Runner again.

Or maybe being more careful out there. And not just slamming the skinny pedal to overcome objects.

Well, that's actually not how I drive. Slower is better. The problem is, where I live, there are trees, trees, and more trees. The trails are made for Suzuki's and older Toyotas. The FJC is 6 feet wide. That's almost full size.
Just to prove I don't hit the skinny pedal....my 4Runner has a 5L V-8 in it, with the 4cyl diffs, and I haven't broken anything. Not even a birf!:D

I'm going to have to stand behind Ryan on this one, My mirrors spend a lot of time getting slapped in. If you don't wont any BC pin stripping then you have to stay on the main forestry service roads. I've been lucky so far, the bumper and rock rails seem to be keeping the bigger hidden objects at bay along with good communication with the trucks ahead giving a heads up of upcoming objects. There are lots of trails that feel like you are driving throw a carwash, Branches against both sides and across the roof:D.

Nice discussion, but............

What do you wax your FJC with and what do you clean your plastic with?:flipoff2:

Sorry, Staying on topic, I got my truck detailed and waxed before my first outing and have been using Meguiar’s liquid Tech Wax after every trail run. Really easy to apply and seems to be doing a good job of smoothing out the scratches. The only thing I have found is that it seems to attract dust... But don't know if it was the original wax or the Mequiar's

As for the plastic I'm still trying different products but think I will be trying some of my foaming tire cleaner. I had some get on the plastic by accident and it did a nice job of renewing it.

I'd want to say Turtle wax.. but it's more like.. Mud, Clayish mud and some more mud. Pin Striping here and there.

After you clean, spray Stoners 'Trim Shine' on the plastic as a preservative/anti-uv coating. Check out their website. Great product. Just spray it on and walk away.
