Went camping with some buddies in the Madawaska Highlands. Got some skeet shooting and target practice in as well.

Picked up a date. And when she went to get in in her skirt she was not happy about the height, and then when she went to check her makeup in the Rossen visors she was not happy, at the end of the date when she almost busted her ass sliding out of the seat getting out of the LX again she was not happy. At the end of the date she said, "I think it's hilarious that you drive an old truck but next time can we please take your car?"

......

I am not sure there will be a next time. Lol

Ah, you have good seals then. :) Or you're out of grease in your birf. :(

The clean parts on my birfs have a line that is a pretty good way to tell how much grease is in there. If you turn full right or full left, does the bottom half of the shiny part feel dry dry or slightly greasy?
Definitely dry, so the new grease added should be good for it. Thanks for all the info, really appreciate the help!

Toys arrived today! The last piece of my coolant/heating system replacement. Going to try for this weekend.

This one came competently packed. A One Stop Cooling 1918 from Rock Auto.

Found a flaw. Thought hard about just returning it, but then thought about what a PITA it was to get it; decided to use my sheet metal pliers to crimp these two over and hope.

Other than that, a much better looking unit than my $79 leaky Chinese POS. It also has finished edges, and despite handling it, I haven't donated blood, yet.

More later when I install it.

I don't see any flaws??

Great picture! How can I get one of those V neck wits'end lady tee's? I went to your site, but didn't see them available anywhere??

Later today. I was trying to get the page ready but off roading yesterday was more tiring than I thought. I slept instead :P

So, my colleagues working in LIberia sent me a bit of Series 80 news today, albeit without meaning to.

They sent me this picture, earlier in the day, showing what a great time they are having. Of course, I picked up that this is NOT their Series 80. They responded, somewhat sheepishly, that the 80 was just acting up too much and they "didn't trust it".

A couple hours later, I received THIS series of pictures.

Luckily for them, a Liberian on a "Baga baga" stopped by and gave them a ride to town on his scooter, so that one of them could retrieve the "unreliable" Series 80 and come pull them back.

Look at the two tabs just above the outflow pipe. They are not bent over.
And aren't supposed to be! That is normal.

When I experience a need or a problem 3 times I address it.

Added a couple of excellent items to my recovery arsenal.
30' 25K rated kinetic recovery rope:santa: Nice build quality and very light weight
Low cost hand held winch remote :santa: Now in, out, or hiding for safety Im covered

Attempted about the first mile of Barlow Road.

After nearly sliding off and driving in the ditch I decided it was time for chains.
IMG_6418.webp

We got turnt around and made back out before it got too dark and in time to sit in traffic for an hour on hwy 26.

Is there any reason why running chains only on the fronts would cause damage? If I'm running locked?

Christmas on the Mountain
Lexi450 got to streach her legs out & run. It feels good to drive somewhere other than just to work.
We went on a 250 mile road trip up to the annual Family Christmas on the Mountain Top event. There was barley a bit of snow, the kids really had a great time. That's what it's about, kids. On the way home we went through a Christmas Tree Lane, putting it in low & Cruuuised the Cruiser...
Lexi450 ran like a champ!

I found the SINGLE (as far as I can tell) external connector that isn't fully waterproofed on a 93-94 A442F trans chassis, and getting to that plug is worse than the PHH BY FAR.

After all of the body/engine swap wiring I couldn't figure out why when the truck was in park the drive indicator would also turn on dimly. And vise versa. This also caused the transmission computer to kick up the idle in park, thinking the truck was in Drive. I was sure I had that portion of the wiring correct.

Tracing things back to the transmission gear indicator switch, I assumed there would be a plug at the switch. NOPE. It is next to the starter, along with 4-5 other plugs that couple the engine and transmission harnesses.

Unfortunately at 6'2" 225 I don't make a very good contortionist.

The offending plug is the only round one on the side there, and unlike every other external plug I've ever found on this truck or my 4runner, each wire isn't gasketed as it enters the back of the connector. There is a single rubber boot that is taped around all 8-9 wires, and friction fit around the back of the plug.

I dislocated my elbow and wrist and was able to use an o-ring pick to open the plug

ANND... a couple ounces of nasty green water came out. 3-4 pins corroded. Electrical parts cleaner, compressed air, and some dielectric grease and all appears to be working properly again.

not sure how the water got in there.. possibly from the prodigious cooling system flushing I was doing when I first got the truck, and recently when I switched it back to green coolant.

Either way.. not sure if the A343F is similar, but if you have an A442F and more than one gear indicator light coming on in the cluster, hire someone with REALLY small hands to look into this.

So that's the last unknown with all of the wiring I'm doing. Time to close up the harness and replace the windshield so I can get this thing registered. Then early next year.. most likely an L33 swap.

Running low air pressure is your friend....I go with 8psi per tire on 33's, amazing how much traction you get!

I would think chains on just front would be ok as long as your on snow only never dirt or pavement....it would have to be beyond icy for me to chain up, but I dont own chains..lol
