Thanks for sharing. I don’t have any experience with them, but after watching their YouTube nomad versus xtreme valve body video I wasn’t inspired. Maybe I missed it, but it seems like they are swapping out a few orings and sometimes a few doodads and charging high prices because they have the market niche.
I have the Nomad VB on my A440F. It is worth every penny. Especially with the 3rd gear lockup which is huge for pulling grade and help with tranny cooling. The install is straight forward.

Would a TransGo shift kit work in lieu of this? Pretty straightforward install...
I have this in the garage waiting to install. I tow heavy occasionally and looking for help in that area.

Nomad here in my 93 Turbo.....it kicks ass!

Went for a night ride in Bankhead Forest. The lightning bugs(firefly’s) are starting to appear. It is really a cool thing to go into the dark forest shut everything off and be surrounded by thousands of twinkling bugs.

Did you work directly with Wholesale Auto out if AU?
No cruisers and company out of Colorado. They're the us resaler for them.

I don't see one for the fully hydraulic a442f. This is an oddball 2 year only trans in the diesel.

No, they are entirely different approaches to modifying your transmission. A TransGo shift kit is an internal upgrade you install yourself, while the Nomad Heavy Duty (HD) Valve Body from Wholesale Automatics is a complete, dyno-tested, aftermarket-built replacement unit. [1, 2]

The Main Differences
  • TransGo Shift Kit: Requires you to disassemble your existing valve body, install a few new valves and springs, and drill out specific holes in your separator plate. It is an economical DIY fix designed to prevent burnt clutches and firm up your shifts. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
  • Nomad HD Valve Body: This is a fully remanufactured unit from Wholesale Automatics. They take an OEM valve body core, completely disassemble it, inspect the bores, drill/ream them for oversized valves/sleeves, and install heavy-duty components. It is significantly more expensive but offers comprehensive hydraulic fixes and is tested before it ships. [1, 2, 3]

How to Choose

Thank you.

I reached out to wat themselves and they confirmed I'm ****ed.

If it makes you feel any better we have removed one from a trans because it shifts so hard it could give you back problems.

Everybody seems to be praising them, they are not new. For years and years Georg at Valley Hybrids was the US importer. Some people seem to love them, my customer would have never gone for a trans shifting like it was some 1960’s muscle car with a shift kit for the drag strip.

Just my opinion and experience.

Cheers

I have one in my supercharged 1FZ 442. I love it. I'd do it again in a New York minute.

No because that seems to the the exception not the rule. The third gear lock up was something I was looking forward to, especially wheeling. The hydro a442f builds impressive heat. And my massive trans cooler helps, but I wanted more insurance

As it should !

She a great looking Boat.

That's to much much weight for a 80 ! Then you have a lift kit, over size tires, front and rear aftermarket bumper and a winch that all diminish tow capacity. Add to that the nature of a sailboat puts the weight up high on the trailer making the load less stable.

Every time you put the on a Pubic road way you put others in danger !! You need a proper tow rig to move that around.

I do appreciate your honesty posting the weight ;)

Key was starting to get persnickety in the ignition… Got a new VIN-cut key from the dealership- now I can open the Cruiser from every lock. Can’t believe I waited this long…:meh:
