Key was starting to get persnickety in the ignition… Got a new VIN-cut key from the dealership- now I can open the Cruiser from every lock. Can’t believe I waited this long…:meh:View attachment 4153620
Did and felt the same. Now I need to do it for my first gen Tundra 😉

Getting another custom 80 FF rear axle set up for a customer.

Setting up Eaton E-lockers for another.

I haven't heard of this before. Sounds like a VIN cut key then is more accurate than something modeled from a worn who-knows-how-old key then? Makes sense I guess. I just assumed the door lock tumblers were also worn and didn't like my local locksmith made keys.

Head job is finished, running great and timed in at 4.5 degrees. So now on to new Magnaflow CARB EO# cats and exhaust (OUCH $$$$). New plugs, wires cap, rotor, complete cooling hose kit, new battery. OEM TOYOTA shocks, sway links and bushes.

A work in progress.

She a great looking Boat.

That's to much much weight for a 80 ! Then you have a lift kit, over size tires, front and rear aftermarket bumper and a winch that all diminish tow capacity. Add to that the nature of a sailboat puts the weight up high on the trailer making the load less stable.

Every time you put the on a Pubic road way you put others in danger !! You need a proper tow rig to move that around.

I do appreciate your honesty posting the weight ;)
It’s more stable than you think. The heavy keel is low for a reason. Plus the trailer is probably 2000 lbs of it which is a low as it gets. The extra weight of the truck actually helps in regards to the whole tail wagging the dog situation. I’ve gone through greats lengths to improve and maintain the braking situation on this set up. Sure I accelerate slowly but no slower than any big rig, and I can stop this surprisingly well. Sure there are better row rigs out there and I may get one some day but in the meantime this is what I got and I for the two times a year this boat gets towed I conduct myself in as safe a manner as possible.

I knew there would be a rebuttal 🤣 and I may recall having this conversation before.
We can agree to disagree.
The unfortunate part is the risk to others every time you put that setup on the road.
There a reason for tow ratings not to mention the liability risk you put yourself in as well.

I’ve definitely not had this conversation with your before. This vehicle is plenty heavy enough for this task. I guess you don’t want to hear I’ve eliminated the ABS too. Soon to have a 6BT swap too.

The brakes and suspension are simply not designed for the task.
Adding 6BT will help get the load moving along but will exaggerate the issue by adding substantially more weight.

The thing that you need to understand is if an accident occurs no matter what it’s your fault as you shouldn’t be on the road in the laws eyes because you’re overweight this is the liability I speak of.
It’s your truck do what you want with it
If you want the noise and vibration of a concrete truck go ahead and do the 6BT swap🤣
There’s a reason why they almost always get sold shortly after the swap is complete.

There’s much better swap options IMO

Have a great weekend 😉

In the US market the 80 was "rated" for 5,000 pounds, non weight-disributed. In other markets it was as high as 7,500 pounds. In my experience anything over about 4,000 pounds is edgey. Even with a supercharger. I've towed A LOT over the last 33 years of ownership

I’m well aware of the nature of a 6BT. This isn’t a daily. I already have a different diesel as a daily. And they almost always get sold? I’m sure you have no real data on that. Also you have no idea what I’ve done to the brakes or the suspension. I’m not some young cavalier kid who can’t comprehend risk. I feel quite confident in what and how I’m doing here.

Have a great weekend too. I’m at work paying for a new sail for the boat. 😂

There nothing you can do that changes the tow rating or your liability. And with a 5" lift the stability is greatly diminished !

@cruiserdan summed it up perfectly 33years of towing with a 80 anything over 4K edgey

With over 50 years of towing experience towing 40 foot lowboys to small dump trailer and everything in between I can confident say your a liability roiling down the road.

What bothers me the most is your lack of concern for the safety of others that may be on the road around you !!

Cheers

EIMKEITH RAM burned in. Successfully moving the axle forward 1” and adding 4 degrees of caster. Also dropped my bumpstops 1” lower. I’ve had this truck for 5 years now and did not have any sort of caster correction…… damn it’s amazing how well it handles now. No longer chases the crown of the road and eliminated weird driveline vibrations under load. WIN!
