Gorgeous ride. Is that a Sherpa rack?
Thx. It’s seriously rough but maybe with enough time I can restore it. It has potential. It’s a Prinsu rack. Did a water pump bypass hose replacement yesterday that had a pinhole that was leaking coolant, sometime spurting. Systematically going through everything now. Taking it to a specialty shop next week for a thorough inspection and start ticking things off the list with my son. May have them install snorkel while there.

Last test fitting with everything dressed so I can figure out all the little things like heater hoses and starter cables, moving brake lines and what not.

I bought a rig in “good condition” and I’ve spent a lot of $$$ getting things fixed. I’m finally at the point where now it’s small interior things and not mechanical. Having fun. Love your rig.

I hope to get to that point. Hoping a professional baseline assessment will tell me a lot this week. I don’t mind to drop money into over time, just not a ton at once, and know there is an end point where it can become fun. It’s a hobby rig, but don’t want it to be the wrong one. Would rather sell it, buy another and fix that one up, but if this one has the potential I think it does, I’ll be happy to invest in it.

noticed my front left swivel hub had started leaking so did the enjoyable job of changing out the seal and wiper's. All bearings including upper/lower trunions were nice and smooth so just cleaned and reused them.
checked the breather and it was clear so am putting it down to just wear n tear

no matter how much you try grease gets everywhere and the smell of diff oil on a hot day..........

That is a lot of work! Why didn’t you pull the whole drivetrain? What happened anyway?
Don’t really have the room to pull the entire engine. Damn HOA won’t let me work outside my enclosed garage. Still debating on head gasket replacement. I am this close and sitting a 240,000 on original head gasket. Had a huge amount of oil every where so went for the rear main seal and sealing the oil pans to try and fix the issue.

Does buying parts count? Because I feel like 99% of the "work" being done right now is research (read through all 255+ pages of the 80 Series V8 Swap Thread and SEVERAL build threads), working on my LS swap spreadsheet (I'm spreadsheet person), and ordering parts.

But seriously: Donor vehicle purchased & should be delivered in the next week or so. LQ4/4L80E, harness, PCM, fuse/relay boxes, etc, will all be pulled shortly after.

Cam Motion Stage 2 truck cam and all parts needed to refresh the engine have been ordered: valve springs, lifters & trays, rocker arms & trays, pushrods, timing kit, high pressure oil pump, oil pan (giving the knock-off Holley 302-1 a try), engine gasket kit, and more. The FedEx guy is going to love me over the next month or so. 😅
