What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (52 Viewers)

Just not a great idea with the smaller 8" reverse rotation ring gear in the front end. Pulling in reverse has it running on the weak side and all the weight on the front axle.

If you are pulling backwards just pull up and unspool your winch, it is what they are for. lol.

Are those things really that easy to get stuck? I haven't driven a Jeep since I sold my '73 Wagoneer and I know that thing would have ripped right through that.

Is it hard on the driveline to pull in reverse? I don't do much recovery where I live but the times that I have, I felt like it was helpful to be able to see what I was doing. I have never had to give anything a real yank though just a little tug to back someone or some thing out to get a little better traction.

Winch? Ha! I have a strap.

Good to know on the gearing though. That makes a lot of sense. LIS, most of what we have up here is miles of gravel roads that are in various stages of repair, but easily passable with decent tires and not driving like an idiot. So far, all I have actually pulled in my 80 was one of my GF's kids derelict cars out of the yard and her riding mower. :hillbilly:

I am eyeing up a run on the The Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail - Expedition Portal and I just bought some big shackles that I plan on using with a long section of 4" webbing that I am going to sew into a heavy duty strap at the the Duluth MakerSpace - Home .

That should be a good start, especially if I bring some bottle jacks and good attitude.

You mean it won't just fall off and roll down the hill?

I had considered that. I guess I was more interested in learning about what it did to the truck. I don't think I would have been dumb enough to do any real pulling with the strap attached to the front, but for easing things around the yard that weigh a fraction of what the cruiser does and has wheels of their own, I don't think it's that dangerous. Or is it? How fragile is the diff when it is running against the grain like that?

You are a very nice guy!
Can I assume it was not Trail Rated? I would of drove up next to him and asked if he wanted a help.:grinpimp: Then drive around him like I was on pavement and pulled it out forward with little to no effort.:moon: You would not want him to get stuck AGAIN try to past through.:D

Note: Pulling in reverse is not safe you or your Land Cruiser
Treading lightly of course right?

Before you do the Trans-Wisconsin...have you done any exploring in the Chequemegon forest roads? Just outside Iron River, Wi.

No, but I would love to. I have the whole map. What are some good trails over there? I live in Superior, so that's only like 40 minutes away.

Wanna plan a trip? I would prefer to have another truck along since I don't have a winch.

There's no really hard trails but some of the roads can get rough or washed out. I grew up just outside of Souptown near Poplar and I am up that way often. I was just camping out in the Chequemegon a couple weekends ago and the weather was surprisingly nice. I will shoot you a message next time I am coming up and we'll take a cruise.

Washed it for the first time in about 6-8 months. At least now it's certain to rain here.

I sealed off my moon roof and did the fireman (or is it firetruck?) mod to the passenger side of my windshield. Gotta a heavy rain Sunday night. No water on passenger side, lake on the driver side. So I figured I needed to do the windshield on the driver side.

But it just downpoured for two hours straight, I mean a real turd floater. No water anywhere in my truck. Weird. Still going to do the windshield this weekend but I don't get it...

Oil change and front axle "detail" today.

Also hit the lower portion of the rear bumper with the spray can, after sanding all the rock rash.

Sounds good, we are out by Poplar all the time. We have a secret beach by the cove near where the Middle River flows into the Gitch.

I would for sure be up for a run this fall. Be nice to find a cool place to camp for a night.

6 yards would have been perfect and no piecing it together. Doing the cargo area was an impromptu decision and I'll find out today if 5 yards will include the rear wheel wells using the remnants. It will be very close. My only concern right now is after adding another layer of insulation that it will be too bulky for the carpet. We will see.

I am running the wiring for my fridge at this time.

I am trying to think about what I would run and the only thing I can come up with is a solar panel that could power pretty much anything I would want to plug in. Not sure I really need that though. I don't live in AZ. We can just use coolers and I don't want to build a permanent box structure in the truck nor do I want to fix a solar panel on my roof. I am of the Tetris school of truck packing and having built in stuff almost always wastes space.

What are you guys rigging up?

Fridge
Inverter
Additional power outlets

I bought the one with the lever / valve - the one for 'convenience' that's a bit exposed but I unfortunately perform more oil changes than wheeling trips these days

That's the one I have on my WRX but the one on the Cruiser has a nipple that you can attach a hose to for drainage. I think I might remove it though as it sticks out a little far.

Do you run all of that stuff off of just a single battery?

You can but just need to be careful. In my case dual batteries are not needed. I only run my fridge from the vehicle while it is being driven. In camp I have a portable solar-battery set up. I usually set up camp away from the cruiser so being portable is a requirement. I use portable batteries packs in camp so there isn't a need to hard wire accessories.

It all depends on your needs.

@JaketheSSnake @B Todd Same place!
Ran Coney Flats in heavy rain. Amazing scenery with everything all wet and misty. Parts of the trail turned into a small river. No crowds either. Fun times, but the clunker paid the price. Bent radius arm, 2 punctured tires, rear driveshaft took a beating and my whole exhaust relocated itself about 6" forward, breaking all the hangers and unplugging the o2 sensor  I think I convinced myself to finish my TG sliders and get bigger tires now

Spent last night and this morning repairing some of the damage from last week. Got a new magnaflow y-pipe (2nd one I've bought and 4th y-pipe that's been on the truck in 3 years :o ) Quality difference between the magnaflow and the bosal is mind boggling when you see them side by side. In the process, I yanked out one of the wires from the MAF and got a p0100 so the truck would barely run. Tried about a dozen times to shove the wire back in before it finally worked, thought I might have a much bigger problem on my hands :bang:

Oh yeah, and picked up some new tires that reasonably suit my small penis. Looking like show queen :hillbilly:
