What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (46 Viewers)

Very productive day. Finally found some time this AM to install the Land Tank blue fan clutch (thanks @NLXTACY), got my Slee washer relo kit wired up and started the install of my dual battery system. Then I decided to try to overheat my truck. Try as I might, I couldn't get running temps to migrate outside of the 187-190* range. Climed a total of 10k feet in less than an hour, in 107* heat, with revs between 3 and 4K rpm, but nope, rock solid. Guess I fixed the cooling issues. With no drama to attend to, I decided to explore Angeles National Forest looking for family camping spots. Found a few worthwhile.

Thanks to Joey at Wits' End, Solutions for Problems You Didn't Know You Had I no longer have to drive around an 80 Series (or any Land Cruiser) that looks like the inside of a minor league locker room! The refuse containment system is spot on!

Finally found a decent trail around Estes park, not actually in the park, but close enough. Mt St vrain trail. It was a little more intense than I thought it would be, but the cruiser handled it like a champ. I should've done a little more research lol. We got a mile in and talked to a guy on the side of the trail and decided to turn around, we just didn't have the time and I didn't want to break anything. It was still a blast and I actually got some use of the rock sliders when I bounced off of a boulder, it definitely would've left a mark. We also got to see some elk

In to finish the day I went to stay at a hotel instead of camping. I get checked in and just my luck about the only F$&king Land Rover event of the year! So I valet parked and paid $50 to the valet guy and told him I wanted my cruiser parked in front so it is immediately available. I'm a decadent American who has a land cruiser or 4.

Pulled the plugs and found out it is officially seized with only 84k on the clock. Put Marvel Mystery Oil in all the cyls. Will try and turn the crank shaft again tomorrow. Yes, its in neutral.

So, almost exactly 7 months after this:

I was doing this today:

Full engine, transmission, and transfer replacement.

Was not completed this weekend, but basically was Saturdays from January through early July. However, at the same time, we prepped and sold our home that we lived in for 22 years and moved to a relatively short term rental while be renovate another home. Quite a bit of process in both projects.

Picked up 706 lbs of beef.

And took my daughter and niece kayaking. They ended up cleaning up the rock bar and snagging any trash that came floating by. You know, your typical things that float by, TV's etc.

I ran Middle St Vrain and Coney Flats on the 4th. One of my favorites close to home.

Ran Coney Flats in heavy rain. Amazing scenery with everything all wet and misty. Parts of the trail turned into a small river. No crowds either. Fun times, but the clunker paid the price. Bent radius arm, 2 punctured tires, rear driveshaft took a beating and my whole exhaust relocated itself about 6" forward, breaking all the hangers and unplugging the o2 sensor I think I convinced myself to finish my TG sliders and get bigger tires now

Holy crap. I could see how that might happen. We wanted to spend more time at the top, but a storm came through. Rain could make a moderate trail very difficult.

Continuing my prep for our Moab trip. Leave in 5 days. Decided maybe it was time to do the PHH(93 with 270k miles, it was original), repacked wheel bearings, installed some cup holders from @bhicks, mounted and installed a full size spare with *gasp* a ratchet strap, and got another cool trail tool, courtesy of my wife. Between the York, Power Tank, and Readywelder, I thought a trail vice could be a good addition

How difficult is this trail when it's not raining?
