What did you do to your truck today? (1 Viewer)

I got shipping Notification on my new rear shocks and am checking on a set of springs for out back to match. Hoping to do the Tacoma hub swap while I have the front apart to put the coilovers on.

I have a few left over. I am going to wire one up as a toggle switch inside the engine bay for when I am working there, and use another on the rear hatch, near the bottom of the door to use when loading and unloading cargo.

Wow, a couple of those lights under the hood would be amazing.

I notice they have a new version of the lights that are a bit brighter. I wonder if they would be too bright? How do you feel about the brightness of yours? Bright enough?

Trimmed the front bumper up a little bit today, and added some LED's inside the cab.

For what they are yea. I will see if I can get some night pics with no other lighting around to show the brightness.

So boredom ensued, and today I got my rock lights installed. I got them from a place called www.under-glow.com and got a great deal. Each light is a 4 pod LED on a flat surface so it is very low profile. It is coated in a waterproof sealant and disperses a great amount of light.

Very simple process. 2 wires in, 2 wires out. Adhesive tape on the back that is CRAZY strong. I messed up one of the lights and had to use a screwdriver and a hammer to get it off.
These things come in a set of 20 for $25, and for that price, I couldn't say no.
I have 1 on the front body mounts on either side, one in the front, one on either side of the crossmember, 1 on each body mount on the sides of the frames, 1 on the frame on each side, one on each rear body mount, and one directly above the rear axle.
Onto the pics.

If you'd like more info give them a shout. www.under-glow.com. Also, they have different colors if you'd like to go a little crazy with it. Great customer service and I got mine in less than a week after ordering.
Yeah I need to get off my ARSE and get mine mounted. They have been sitting on my bench for 2 years now. Gonna try and use a couple for lights under my awning.

Getting the 80 ready for the ride tomorrow. Installed the spare tire carrier I made recently.

Now put in my sleeping platform. Will be nice for this trip to not have to deal with a wet tent.

Nice work Shawn! That looks sick!

Feels more like what didn't I do this past week? Let's see:

  1. Replaced horn contacts behind steering wheel, cleaned all combo switch contacts as well while I was in there.
  2. Replaced valve cover gasket and grommets as well as nut that had been cross-threaded.
  3. Greased window tracks and regulators. Siliconed the window rubbers and everything's working like a new car now except the back windows. They still want to stick to the rubbers about half way down.
  4. Adjusted tailgate and hatch. Previous owner has warped tailgate, so if I keep this 60, it needs to be replaced to function flawlessly.
  5. Started replacing the plastic vapor barrier that goes behind the door panels. Got the right front one done, but the razor blade dulled quickly and started tearing the plastic, so I just did it half way and put that project on the back burner until I have a box of fresh blades and several hours to kill. This one is more time consuming than you would think if you want to make it look factory.
  6. Removed the front seats and carpet, pulled the trans top cover to check it out. Has been shifting a little rough and wanted to do a visual check. No overt damage, so I replaced everything, drained what little grease was in the transmission and t-case and replaced it. Transmission shifts a little bit better now, but is still a tad notchy. If I feel like killing some time later, I may put the old one out of my '87 in it that I know shifts smoothly as well as rebuild the t-case while it's apart.
  7. Replaced the oil galley plug. This was a PITA. It had previously popped out on the guy I bought it off of and he did a temporary fix with JB Weld. It was on my list of things to do this week while on vacation, but it decided last week that it wouldn't wait when the putty broke loose right as I got to my garage. It took three trips to Fastenal to get the right parts. I wanted to stay metric and avoid using a drill, but it would have taken special ordering the tap and bolts to do it as well as M7x1.00 being a very uncommon thread size. I think I ended up going with 5/8"-18 and an F drill bit. Ended up having to borrow a right angle drill bit from my boss this morning, but I finally got it fixed.
  8. Changed the oil and filter.
  9. Replaced the oil pressure sending unit.
The one thing I hate about buying used Land Cruisers is there's usually a lot of deferred maintenance to catch up on. It's nice not having to worry about it breaking down on you, though.

I picked up a wind breaker for a 4 door jk so I can start driving the 40 more on the road.

Ordered a few small parts today. Valve cover gasket, hub gaskets, rear pinion seal, thermostat, oil drain plug gasket.

Rear pinion was leaking. Don't want to sling oil all over the place.

Thermostat is questionable. But most likely toast.

Hub gaskets are non-existent.

Need to pull valve cover and check tolerances.

I need to go ahead and get a knuckle kit for when I start front axle clean up.

Kurt @ Cruiser Outfitters took good care of me on all my knuckle kits for the 80 & 40. Prices were good too

On the bright side, at least you probably aren't going to have to replace part or all of your transfer case. ;) I don't know what it is about my luck, but I think this is going to be the second one of two that I have to replace the guts of. Has a really bad grinding noise when ascending or descending a steep hill in 4 low.

That's great Andy! You've done a lot of work on it so far. Glad to see it mobile again.

That's awesome Andy, proud for you
