What did I break in my driveline, KZJ78

Yeah it seems to me that the front end is good. I drained the rear oil as well and other than some very fine black sludge on the magnet that seems reasonable for 50k km on the oil. I didn't get a chance to jack up the rear end and spin the wheels but I'm guessing that will check out fine. The t-case oil only has maybe 15k km on it so i'll drain that next and see what it looks like. If the t case checks out fine where do I go next? I should also say that my birfs were rebuilt maybe 15k km ago as well.

Thanks for all the help guys. Still looking into lockers!

If it were me I think I'd really want to jack up the rear end and spin it by hand to get a good feel for what is going on in there. Even though the oil looks ok, there could still have been some damage done.

Yeah for sure. I'll do that when I get back from Vancouver (flying) on Monday and let you guys know. Feeling cautiously optimistic.

Hey Guys,

Sorry I've been away from my truck for the past couple weeks. I believe it's the transfer case. I have a really bad whine when I roll off the throttle at highway speeds. When I shift into 4 hi it just grinds and whines for about 5 seconds before it meshes. So. I think I need to pull my T case and rebuild. Any Suggestions for rebuild kits. Or for wrecked T cases that will fit. Would love to put lower Low range gears in if possible too as I'm running bigger tires.

Thanks guys.

Although the engines in the Prados are smaller displacement than the HD Landcruiser, the Prado's do share the same heavy duty split t-case design. They are a vacuum actuated version. I believe they are very similar to or nearly identical to the vacuum actuated t-case in the late spec FJ62 (and some of the same year HD 70 series cruisers). But you'd have to compare sub-part drawings (Megazip) to know for sure what is the same and what is different...

If you're going to go for lower gears anyhow, maybe just go the rebuild route? I think there are cruiser shops who will do it for you.
