Hi all,
My power steering isn't working. I swapped my original pump out with another that I got with the new 2F. Still no luck. I don't think I've got any air bubbles and I used tranny fluid per owners book. Called around for a rebuild kit and thier around $20. Remans are about $100. Is it the o-rings and seals that go out? Any one know what all they replace in the reman pumps?
The steering box seams tight and no noise coming when I turn the wheel. Is there somthing that could be clogged in the box?
Thanks

Maybe this is obvious and you've already tried it - have you tried removing the return line while the engine is running to see if ATF fluid comes out? Should be a nice stream - ie it'll make a mess quickly so have a jar for the hose to dangle into.

I did when removing air from the system. And your right. It did make a mess. What do you mean by a nice stream? It came out with some pressure but not a whole lot. Also when running I can remove the cap and look in the tank and see the fluid swhirling around.

I used to run reman pumps in my 60s. I finally got sick of having practically no power assist so I got a brand new pump through CruiserDan. Its better, more power assist when parking but still far from the over assisted steering on my old Acura Legend.

After installing the new pump, I took the opportunity to tear apart the old pump to find out why it wasn't putting out. I found that the rotor to endplate clearance was huge. I forget the actual numbers but the book calls out something like 0.003" clearance. Mine measured about 0.03" A rebuild kit won't fix that. If you had the ability to surfacr grind the housing down a bit to match up with the rotor, maybe that would help but I doubt its worth it.

I'll have to give CDan a call. Remember about how much a new pump set you back.

Ya, about 300. Works way better than the reman I tried (wasted money). Lesson learned...OEM is good.
