Jim I have read that one too. Marcus Lutrtrell did the intro to the book I'm reading now. He credits the guy who wrote the book with saving his life ( the tactics and skills he learned ) while he was evading the Taliban in Afghanistan.

fat hands

Al, I have a DVD on the making of this documentary if you'd like to borrow it.

Jim

I knew there was a DVD out there somewhere. Yes I would:D

It's kind of like a dark, evil Alice in Wonderland tale

We are finding that Jack has a great deal of Corgi in the brain department (thank God) far easier to deal with than most Jacks from what I am reading.

Picture or it didn't happen (irony)

one second after- William Fortschen is a must read

My neighbor at work turned me on to Brandon Sanderson a few months back and I can't stop reading his stuff.

I have read the Mistborn Trilogy and the first two of his Stormlight books, The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance. I also listened to parts of all via VERY well read Audible versions with my wife and daughter.

For Fantasy, he is a young author from Nebraska, so perhaps not as well known as some others.

He has done a few kids/ young adults books, the most recent of which, I am actually reading, entitled The Rithmastist, which is kinda of like Harry Potter, but with a very unique magic system.

Yes I am a Sci Fi / Fantasy nerd . . .

Reddit's Top Fantasy Reads of All Time - How many have you read?

One nice thing about taking the train to work again is that I actually have time read again.

About 1/4 of the way into this one.... pretty good so far.

how do you like doing the audio books thing?

I find them great when i'm driving on a road trip.

(we listened to 3 across the US last year)

But I still prefer to read myself.

I am audible only. I can’t sit still long enough to read a book.

We used to do it to drift off to sleep to back in NC. Only problem is i'd be listening for an hour before I realized Andrea fell asleep 5 minutes in and i'd have to listen to the same hour about 6 times until she caught up.

Funny.

Homo Deus - A Brief History of Tomorrow will blow your mind.

Reminds me of a company I interviewed with, AI.

They do natural language generation (NLG). The computer can write a story from any structured data. Baseball stats, financial stats, call of duty stats, AP newswire uses for most of their stories now. In 10 years it will be the norm as companies start to structure their data properly.

Audiobooks save me since I'm having to fly a lot more now. Really enjoyed Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol" recently, and I also stuck with "The Good Daughter", which I'd give a B, and "Legacy of Spies" which I'd give a B-. Currently working on "Triple Agent", nonfiction story of al-Bawari, which is good and informative, but dry as you might imagine.

I use Overdrive to check out audiobooks from my local library, via phone app. Works well and $0 - simply taking advantage of my tax dollars a bit more. Sometimes there's a wait, and eventually I'll probably have to augment with Audible.
